70's nostalgia tube socks and all. 1978 and I am all of 16 here. Discovered climbing as a lifestyle early on in my life and feeling pretty happy about it. Obvious?

Guess what year?? Chamois shirt, wool knickers, miss matched set of ice tools (one was Lowe/Interalp Hummingbird modular axe the other a non-modular Camp North Wall hammer which I eventually snapped the tip off in super cold conditions and thus rendering it useless) SMC strap on adjustable crampons (also not modular), Chouinard tubular ice screws (with accompanying screw ratchet driver), Willians Seat Harness, homemade quickdraws with old SMC (i think) death oval carabiners, Dachstien wooly mittens (them bad boys were darn warm even when soaking wet), and no helmet. ICE CLIMBING with no helmet.... Ha! Photo by Dave Rone.

It was really cold and this man has a case of the "Scream'n Barfies"....
Crying tears as I finish seconding the top and second 3+ pitch of "Tears of Joy" in Orient Bay Ontario, Canada weekend of 3-10-07. I am most gratefull. The day is 8 weeks post opp. after having my right hip joint replaced with a all cobalt stainless steel joint implant...........
