say it ain't so!!!

I guess if everybody is cool with that kind of thing and are having fun it's no big deal. But it would be a sad day if that became a trade mark of the area.

You could add it to the grade too, Whip Tide .12b L1

My understanding is that the Forest Service is NOT saying this, but the RCA is saying this...two very different things.

As for the ladder, it leans up against the wall, obscuring the start of Single Cell Animal (5.14b). This is truly a bad climb that consists of a V11 boulder problem to the first bolt, with 5.6 climbing to follow. No one's had anything good to say about the climb, and people have been happily using the ladder for a long time now (at least since I've been here and that has been six years or so).

Yup, sorry about that.

I knew you'd be lurking around MP Jay.

I took time out from my busy Friday night social schedule to check the forums. One look and I have to go back to the crazy party up here in northern NH.

Kayte and I are climbing at Rumney tomorrow. You in Ladd?

Tomorrow I'm going to be spending the day with Nuria in Concord. We did spend our day today house searching in Rumney, and I think we may have found a winner.
I'll be in Pawtuckaway on Sunday, you are welcome to join.

Hmmmmm...bouldering, huh? I'll have to check my busy social schedule.

Ladd Raine · · Plymouth, NH · Joined Feb 2006 · Points: 5,505

Bouldering...and a bit of Trad climbing...or do you do that Jay?

We'll be out at Natural, you and Kayte are welcome to come on out, it will be pretty chilly, but it would be fun!

We've hijacked this thread enough now I think.

Here is a picture of the old ladder. I haven't seen the new one yet.
Notice the red spot where someone didn't make it bouldering The Fly.

There is a long thread on newenglandbouldering.com if anyone really cares about it.

Mark,

The new ladder is almost identical.

Now I have a picture of the new ladder,

The ladder at Waimea, a nice way to gain the left side of the E-ticket ledge.

It is even spray painted a grey-blue to match the rock color.

Ohhh, it is a wood ladder! Why didn't you guys say that in the first place!

Oddly, that ladder is quite becoming... it is cute. Thanks for the pic.

M Sprague wrote: I wish more people who use Rumney would make the effort to join the RCA. We need people to participate so we know what peoples concerns are and can build consensus when needed. If you are on the membership list we can notify you of upcoming meetings, dealings with the Forest Service etc. more timely and easily. It is good to have a strong organization when dealing with outside agencies too. It is a nice way to give something back to an area and community we all enjoy. Mark
I came across this old thread while trying to figure out how to find the RCA. Ironically, it's a really hard group to track down. Still active?

Still active. We tend to step back into the shadows when there isn't a big issue confronting us and a smallish core group quietly go about with needed business. I think a meeting with the Forest Service is coming up very soon. Bob Bruemmer (our Treasurer) was working out a convenient date. Bob calls himself Bbrum here on MP and also in NEclimbs.com. Ward Smith (Secretary) is Eyebolter there too if you want to contact them.

Kayte Knower recently started a google group for us to communicate. If you contacted her or Jay and know the secret handshake, they might be able to send you an invite.

Bill Schifone was our membership coordinator last I knew. I think you can reach him through metrorock

Ladder = Lame.

Maybe someone will put a ladder up The Nose so that I can claim a free ascent.

yawwwwn... there is so much fixed shit on the Nose you can practically sport lead the thing..

you are across the country dude.. you know nothing about why the ladder is there.

i hate fucking douchenozzles who like to spray holier than thou bullshit about a place they have never been and probably never will.

"Sport: Leads 5.10b"

yep.. you can stick to the 5.warmup's and not worry your little head about a ladder that has been up for over 10 years with very little said about it. Seriously.. you cannot climb a single route at the Waimea crag.. the whole thing.. 40+ routes.. none of which you can do..
M Sprague · · New England · Joined Nov 2006 · Points: 5,090

There is a 5.0 there Jake, right next to a 5.15 project and then Jaws II ;)

Jake D. · · Northeast · Joined Nov 2006 · Points: 365

Ok he can solo Hawaii 5.0.. he might be too enraged by the ladder to have a clear mind to do that though :)

I think he'd have to get past the meadows and parking lot wall, too.

Ah, so it seems the ladder defines a lot of you. Seems like the only reason that you would lash out with insults directed at me...rather than defending the ladder.

Jake D: I can, in fact, climb every route there if I resort to whatever means necessary. This might include using a ladder.

nah, i've never been higher than 1 step on that ladder. It is absurd that you think you know enough about the situation to take jabs at locals who have been there for decades.

the reasons for the ladder have already been layed out in this thread if you bothered to read it. i'd prefer to argue the fact that you don't have a clue what you're talking about.
