My hands are in my jacket pocket but the brake hand is still on the rope. (Actually I'm sure I have a gri gri)
My climbing partners, at least the ones that are still alive, have never complained about my belaying.

I whipped shortly after this and jimbo caught me just fine. Perhaps I just timed my fall well, but I was glad not to hit the deck...
