Gray rock bolting

Someone is bolting a route about 200 ft. right (as climber faces the rock) of "The Greatest Route." Bolts are about 6 ft. apart on maybe 5.6 terrain. 5.6 is not an aid line and does not warrant bolting! Please leave your Christmas Hammer Drill at home!

What climbing area are you referring too? "gray rock" is not very specific.

Fred's referring to Greyrock.

Go,Fred! Go!

I was there with Fred on Sunday looking at this route. It's a sad joke of a line to put up beyond the excessive and pointless bolting.

I hope the person who put that pathetic route up reads this and tries to defend himself here. Please start with justifying bolts placed around 3 feet apart on the bottom...

Bolting every 3ft?? On .6??!! Baffles the mind. I don't even set pro that close together. Bet they're bright shiny bolts as well.
Why even bolt a climb that easy?

yeah...lot's of things called "greyrock" in Colorado.

Anyway, more to the point. I don't think I've ever climbed there, so I don't have much business in this discussion; but who is to say what is appropriate bolt spacing. If it were a 5.13 testpiece you probably wouldn't complain about the spacing...what's the difference? Should 5.6 climbers be required to take longer falls than 5.13 climbers?

If it were a 5.13 route I'd expect the bolts to be farther apart, especially in the easier sections. 5.6 leaders may need more protection but 3 ft. is uncalled for. Truly though it all comes down to whether or not the line is even worthy of bolts. We've been having this conversation over on Splitterchoss.com.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
