Description

Keller Peak offers great climbing in a dense pine forest at elevations of 6500' to 7500', with over 200 routes and much bouldering to be enjoyed. There are many locations for climbing along the road as well as eleven free campsites. No services are available along Keller Peak Road, but the towns of Running Springs and Arrowbear are only fifteen minutes away with full ameneties. The fire lookout atop Keller Peak (7882') provides an amazing bird-eye view; when open and visibility is high a visit to it is highly recommended.

The road up Keller Peak is a narrow two lane road with many blind corners as it winds it's way up the mountainside. Please drive slowly and cautiously and keep an eye out for other vehicles as well as pedestrian traffic. Parking is fairly limited at most crags, especially the Hungover Wall, so please pull completely off the road when parking so as not to make it any more narrow than it already is.

Getting There

From the town of Running Springs head east approximately 1.0 mile on Hwy 18 and make a right (just past the Deerlick Fire Station) onto Keller Peak Road (1N96), a paved but narrow and winding two-lane road. Following the road uphill will take one to the various areas; about 4 miles up the road tees- left to Children's Forest and right to the Keller Peak Lookout.

Particle Acceleration 5.12a  CA : San Bernardino Mountains : ... : Hungover Wall - Right Side
A local classic that starts by climbing a bouldery face (5.11) past a bolt to a ledge. Wander upwards past two more bolts until just below a small overhang/overlap. The moves past the next bolt are excellent and involve a long reach/dyno to a distant edge and then moving up to a delicate and somewhat heady stand-up move with holds that seem to face the wrong way. The final moves to the top are enjoyable and largely uneventful.Suberb moves on this...[more]   Browse More Classics in CA

There is a new trail built in 2005 called the Exploration Trail on Keller Peak that is useful for some of the crags.

Also most of the campsites were renumbered in 2005, so go by their location, not by number. In general, most of the site numbers decreased by ONE.
