Comments: I managed to get to the pebble you mentioned. but each of the three holds leading up to it crumbled in my hands. Then what seemed to be the key foot hold to effectively using the pebble and move past it cleaved off as soon as I put weight on it. I looked for different beta without the foothold but bailed on the chosspile after a few minutes.

Comments: The 2 good finger pocket out right is a sucker hold. And Yes going out to the right arete is cheating.

This section is the real crux of the route.

Without giving the fun totally away.

Stay left use underclings to gain a super sharp crimper. This sets you up for a very technical cross to gain a good crimp and mono.

I'm not sure what "local" you talked to but they didn't know what they were talking about.

Comments: The original(?) line trends to the left before heading up. A direct Line was bolted by an unknown party. 2 bolts were added by an unknown party that straightens the line out so it heads straight up. The direct line feels a bit harder.

Correct me if I'm wrong I can't remember for sure which line was first.

Comments: Part of the face has been taken out. I'm not sure how much this affected this route. It seems to be missing something in the middle, but I could have the beta wrong. Maybe one of the original crew that put up the line could provide more detailed beta.

Check the picture posted of the missing rock.

Comments: Route has been taken out by mother nature I'm sure it was good when it was up. Entire middle section is gone.

Comments: Route has been taken out by mother nature I'm sure it was good when it was up. Gaston Jug is one of many holds that have broken off.

Comments: Routes 1-3 in the beta photo have been substantially effected by rock breakage. In comparing photos a full third of the face has fallen off.(most likely due to freezing and thawing.) The problems cannot be done with the same beta as the first ascent.

The routes are 1) Fading 2) Red to Blue 3) BMW.

All other route seem to be fully intact.

Comments: I felt it was solid .12a but it is probably important to note the crux bulge must be done completely different by a short individual as compared to someone tall. A tall climber can reach an upper hold off of decent hold while a short climber must use "wizard beta" involving a bunchy heel-hook and slopers to get to the hold.

What Pete said about the grade.

"When I bolted it, I rated it 11c/d but I am tall and had the moves dialed from bolting it, I guess .12a is a good overall rating for som... more >>

Comments: Solid Route. Great arete on amazing rock. Sustained climbing from top to bottom.

Easiest access: Once you reach the large boulder(on your right) head left directly up the hill until you reach the base of the cliff. Follow the cliff east(away from the road)until you run into a detached pillar. You will see two bolted lines, one on each arete. Fallout is the line on the right.

Comments: Good route for a first lead. The bolts are so close together that at each clipping stance the last bolt is at your waste. Just make sure not to Z-clip. Almost no fall potential.

Solid rock.

Comments: Went up to check conditions today. The snow is clear and the rock is dry. BUT while we were up there an avalanche from the upper cliffs triggered a small rock slide. Pretty scary, slide was fairly small. Only few large rocks ended up in the road and no rocks made it to the lower boulders. IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO STAY AWAY FROM THE SLIDE AREA UNTIL THE SNOW MELTS. You wouldn't want to be caught in a larger slide.

Comments: Cedar is the best. You now I am always game to head up any route. When you get back from Yosemite lets head up "Never again".
Sounds like we need to start repeating all the "old school routes" to get some respect.

Comments: There are now chains at the top. Excellent warm-up route. Also its pretty straight forward once you get off the ground so a great route for the wife or girlfriend.

Comments: All the bolts are great.
On the 5.6 you do have to lower off a single rap ring, or rap off the tree. The ring it seems solid.

Comments: You can access more routes by hiking west along the rim from too much caulk not enough lycra. They are on the rim above the road.

As far As "Too Much Cock, not Enough Lycra" Its solid 12a (especially if you are short). It been established at this grade for a long time.

Comments: We called in the monolith boulder back in April of 2009 but I know a lot of people have been developing it since then. Does anyone else have a name for the beast. A boulder in LLC has the same name so I'm game for something else, I figure if somebody already has a name for it thats the one to use.
