Comments: The girls rarely climbed they waited back at camp to have your supper ready.. Of course today sport climbing is something the girlies can do,with or without teeth.

Comments: Cairns have been used by man for thousands of years. They are an important part of history especially in the mountains, where they have guided many lost climbers/hikers to safety.

Comments: A note from Mike Binnie UK. My wife,Carol, godfather Geoffrey Gathorne had a foot shot off in the Boer War (about 1898?)told me once how he climbed Kern Knotts crack with a false foot.He was the middle man of three. Somewhere on the climb that foot got stuck in the crack. He could not budge it. So the leader called down "Take your foot off and number three can unwedge it for you and bring it up".Which is what happened. He must have been almost up the climb, somehow joined his leader, number three br... more >>

Comments: At the moment best to use the entrance to the slabs from the Hanksville Road, as due to storms the I.7O entrance is in poor condition. From Hanksville Rt 24 I.70 exit drive 7 miles to just past mile marker 153 to dirt road on right. Follow this for about 4 miles to road marker on left ,the road to Three Finger Canyon.

Comments: Beaver ..I remember the night well .. About 2am Jimmy banging on my chalet door shouting bring the Jack Russells there is a beaver that just bit me in the backside! I thought yeah right and went back to sleep.. It did happen Jimmy sleeping in a drive way a few chalets down from mine when a beaver came and bit his arse . The Fish and Game department came and captured the Beaver for testing...I think just in case Jimmy had given the beaver rabies.

Comments: A trad climber might not get up this problem but does not have to be tough to fall a few feet onto a bolt . Still for girls.

Comments: Sorry Craig ..A senior moment on my part. I mainly placed that extra bolt on this climb as this and another route 1000' of Fun have become the trade routes of the slabs,so thought it might help first timers get a easier introduction to one of the longer climbs, and it would be a very nasty fall in those cams pulled. As I am sure you are aware there are now plenty of routes in this area that will give you a few heart in the mouth moments.I guess if climbers want the original commitment on D by C... more >>

Comments: Hi Craig ..Sounds like you have not done this climb ? Well I guess if we remove the pin ( as I did the FA ) and the next person does take a possible 70+ whipper directly onto his second,he will probably be in no condition to climb the other pitches !!!. Actually if you do this route the pitches above are a piece of cake and just fun.Of course some climbers are a bit paranoid about pro ,more so if they mostly climb sport routes.

Comments: Hi Tristen..As Ben says we have been through this debate quite a few times. First I would be delighted to see you put up routes on the Reef that suit your taste and protection comfort level. However you must admit its rare "5.11+ climbers" get a thrill out of 5.0 pitches! Regarding the crux of Death by Chocolate (named after a favorite cheese cake ..not death), about a year ago we added that pro bolt next to the 5.8 move,as prior to that the only pro (15' below) was a cam behind a hollow flake ... more >>
