Comments: The first ascent was made in 1971 by Mike Stultz , George Eyper and Joe Cote .This party placed a 6" bong for protection . While not actually used as aid, it was impossible to avoid coming in contact with it.Barber and Masury in 1976 climbed it without the bong.. a bolt placed next to the crack is used for protection.

Comments: Hi Matt . Glad you had fun on the climb. Perhaps other folks if those rap bolts you mentioned are not replaced they could check out the raps from the other climbs to the north. Cheers

Comments: Yes 60m ropes are fine. It is easier to duo rap if you feel ok with that.

Comments: The bolt on the first pitch was used for the descent as the party climbed down the ramp and use it to safe guard last few feet to the ground.

Comments: We did remove all the loose we could find on the FA and the odd repeat ascents later on. Judging by comments on this climb and other repeats on routes in this area it seems this sandstone rock is "alive" and does continue to decompose. This certainly adds to the great adventure of sandstone climbing.I guess love it or leave it.We loved it.Cheers from the damp UK.

Comments: We left all the hangers on the FA in 2002. Someone has removed them ,typical of some of todays climbers.

Comments: You certainly left quite a lot of loose rock /cleaning, etc. if you did they same line as we did. One would have thought they would have been at least a sign of a previous ascent... more so as you claim it was made just a few months before ours... who knows where you ended up?

Comments: The climbs are not that obscure. There are about 250 routes on these crags and they are just of a major interstate namely I.70 near Green River. They are adventure climbs... the FA's done ground up on sight . Chris preferes this type of adventure climbing. He has climbed a couple of times on here over the last few years. We first climbed together in the Alps in 1958. This area is not popular with todays youth as it has run out pitches and many of the climbs can not be overcome with brut strenth ... more >>

Comments: First Ascent of The Prow...It was early in the year of 1972 ,still bits of snow below the crag when Hugh and I sent off on what became The Prow. This was my first new route on Cathedral. Ground up on sight as was the fashion in those days.. We encounted some streaks of water and quite a bit of lichen etc that had to be cleaned as one progressed.A very fun day out.We used mainly soft iron pitons as they rusted much less than the modern pitons these we left in place making it a fun climb for futur... more >>

Comments: Well, boyo, you're a Welshman with multi degrees!!... might have known...even our colonial friends have a better sense of humour. Anyway, hope you document your ascent...could be the last for both the hoodoo and yourself...the top block does move a bit but to what degree? Good job it's not a US flag your calling trash...perhaps you will replace with a bunch of daffodils...that would be lovely...dream on.

Comments: Good one Greg .I really appreciate that you get on these climbs.I think doing second ascents of these routes often has more fear factor than the first ascent. Its was the adventure and most times having the place to our selves that attracted us to this area. All the Best and watch out for those loose holds...they of course add to the fun...

Comments: You would find it distastful... it's the Scottish Lion National flag. It's YELLOW with an embossed lion image. For your information, Scotland is a country outside the US...ignorance is bliss. The Scots also claim they invented golf. Of course, Cactusrat, you'r very welcome to nip up there and replace the flag.
