Comments: Well done Philippe and your partner... Sounds as big as epic as our first ascent 44 years ago.... First we did not place any bolts ..so must have been a previous ascent to yours. We had to slog up the river side from that dam south of the crag ... seemed a long way as the shore was covered in logs .we reached the summit just before dark .. so as you spent a cold bivy as there was still some snow in the woods . Then we bushwhacked back down through the woods to the south .. we made one short ra... more >>

Comments: Sorry "teranicole11" if you took it that way ..not intended... I do get in trouble at times with using Brit humour on Americans ... (I am also now an American) Its tongue in cheek is one way to explain it.. not at all to be taken seriously... but often Americans do who have not experiences this type of humour. Anyway I am sure you are a grand lass ... and yes I have been out climbed on several occasions by delightful lady rock jocks.Best wishes for 2016 and fun days on the crags PS I have neve... more >>

Comments: The bolt ladder pitch is straight forward ..old gear but no problem. Its about a 100' so one needs plenty of biners.

Comments: These drawings were done in about 1965 by an artist nahed Len Roope ( now deceased). He became a very well know Lake District artist mainly water colors . By the 1990's his paintings were demanding high prices.
Google "Len Roope artist." He was a friend of Paul Ross who with Mike Thompson wrote this Guide Book to the Borrowdale valley .

Comments: A little bit of history of the first ascent.Half way up the final bolt ladder the piton hammer head fell off ! We only had one hammer so had to retreat back to the hardware store in Moab buying a $8 claw hammer... returning the following day to place the final points of aid.

Comments: Might be... I have not seen what Chris Kalous wrote... the term Happy Submarine ? Happy Submarine seems inappropriate and a daft name for that area.

Comments: Cell phone reception is not bad from the Eastern Reef as of May 2015. Actually on the Eastern Reef slabs( South San Rafael Swell) there are a lot of climbs that a beginner would enjoy providing he is not leading "1000' of Fun" being one.
