Comments: Did the route today, and I would say the runout face is 5.8, not 5.6, and agree that it is X rated route. The consequence of a 50' fall directly off the belay onto a ledge gives the route an X rating in my book (Mark in this case). At least there's an alternative to that section still providing access to the rest of the route. A couple of bolts would make the slab reasonable and still exciting enough.

Comments: Any locals have info on current conditions at HCR? We're looking at possibly a couple of days there early next week. Not sure if the heavy weather that hit MS & LA affected the area or not.

Comments: There is a new parking lot planned for the vicinity of Mile Marker 10. Not sure when construction will begin, but I believe the USFS has everything all set up with Douglas County to do the construction, so it may even happen in 2016. It is also possible to park at the big hairpin about 1/4 mile past MM10 and head up to Radio Head from below, just stay right & head up through the woods.

Comments: The anchor on the top of the 4th pitch has been replaced due to the considerable efforts of community minded climbers. I'm not sure that the block that the new anchors is placed in is attached firmly to the mountain. The block appears to be disconnected and fractured from behind and it would be advisable to rappel from this anchor until further inspection can be provided. Or, just don't do the 4th pitch which isn't very good anyway.

Comments: Don't do any routes left of Live Action on Live Action Wall as there is a huge, loose flake on the 2nd route left of Live Action. We'll try to get a crew up soon during the week to toss off the 7 foot tall flake. It has two big white "x" marks, but it is in a precarious position.

UPDATE - the precarious flake is now gone thanks to Paul & Greg. Great work, guys!

Comments: The hangers on this route appear to be stainless SMC and the bolts Plated Rawl 5-piece. Considering the vintage and consequence of failure of even one bolt, these should be on the list for replacement before too long.

Comments: The anchors on this route are in fractured cap rock and should be lowered about three feet to much better stone and with something better than chain and washers directly on bolts.

Comments: The bolting could be modified just a bit to make this a better route for the 5.10 climber. Overall, the climbing was fun and the rock good too.

Comments: The anchor on this route is total crap. I've used beefier chains for my dog. I posted this to put it on MP for the list for whoever gets there next to upgrade. If I wasn't freezing yesterday, I would've swapped out the manky chain for quicklinks.

Comments: Would it make sense to lower the anchor to the last protection bolt, thus avoiding rope gnarling for a few feet of irrelevant climbing?

Comments: Trying to find your way around Devil's Head with Mountain Project is just asking to get lost. A print guidebook like Rampart Range Rocks will help a lot with the detailed maps, and Rakkup is even better as the GPS tracks will take you from the parking to your desired crag.

Comments: DH is still open, but there's about 6 inches of snow, so a good set of snow tires or 4WD is needed as the road is not plowed. The rock was sunny and dry today. The road is gated right after Thanksgiving weekend.
