Comments: After driving out of the wash, the correct road to take is the second right turn after the second cattle guard coming out of the wash. A bush has some faded pink tape on it at the turn. A mountain bike will make short work of the road portion. The road itself is sandy, but a narrow single-track appears next to the road when the road becomes sandy. Beware of small mesquite branches littering the single track.

Comments: Pitch 1 seems about 5.7+ or 5.8 and pros very well. A bit awkward, but not bad at all. We did it in about 4 hours as we had to wait on another party ahead of us. Can easily be done in three hours or a bit less.

Comments: The access to Gardener's Wall and Tom's Thumb has changed. The City of Scottsdale requires you to park over near Morrell's Wall and to take the new trail from that point. This will add at least 45 minutes to any Gardener's Wall approach and about the same to Tom's Thumb.

Comments: East trail is easy to find. Descend the Forbes Route. When you reach the bottom of the Ladder pitch, move immediately north to the slabs through some bushes. Keep heading northerly on the slabs and you will come to the second rap point. After that rap, keep moving down and north to the chock stone and single line rap down that and follow the trail to the saddle. Kerry's beta on descending the Forbes route is spot on. Bring a light rack for the S E Arete route. You can get by with cams smalle... more >>
