Comments: We set up at Misery on Saturday and arrived about 10 minutes before a scout leader. This seems to be a very popular place for scouts, college groups, etc. The climing is very enjoyable, and the view ain't bad either. The pine tree at the top of the cliff was sheared off this winter, perhaps by the wind? Thankfully it fell to the south, so it isn't in the way of any of the routes.

Comments: False Perspective is a nice challenge. The puzzle is at the bottom, but generally it is a sustained climb. I huffed up it this weekend and had a blast.

Comments: False Perspective is a nice route to warm up on before trying the two excellent face routes on either side of it. Great spot to climb at.

Comments: I climbed this with my excellent climging partners this weekend. This is truly a beautiful spot, and it offers the added bonus of solitude (at least it has when I've been here). Just a really nice route.

Comments: Holy crap! I was already impressed by the legend of Pete Cleveland, but after looking at the website Jay mentioned I'm even more in awe. Very cool that Pete put Devil's Lake in the hard climb history books!

Comments: I definitely prefer to take the left crack when you get to the split. More interesting and continuous.

Comments: I had a chance to climb this route again over the weekend, and unlike before, I made a successful attempt. The route is very crimpy. Some of the moves remind me of Stretcher. Seems similar in difficulty too, maybe a bit harder even. PP Right Side was my favorite route of the day. Highly recommended.

Comments: I climbed this route again last Sunday on lead and I really enjoyed it. It is a great route for a newer lead climber. The most interesting moves are at the very start and near the top. There is good pro all the way up, and the climb tops out in a very convenient spot, right at the "Angel's Traverse", which is how you access routes like Mary Jane and Jolly Roger (go left as you face the cliff to find these). If you go right, you'll end up in the gully between the Major Mass and Minor Mass for... more >>

Comments: Excellent route. I climbed it over the weekend on TR and really enjoyed it. This was my second ascent of the route, and I was able to ascend without any falls, so I went home happy. Get out and climb it!

Comments: A little epic to pass on to you all...Yesterday I was planning to knock a bunch of leads off, and the day started out well, with my leads of Birch Tree Crack and Full Stop. Third route was Peter's Project, which I'd lead before. I sauntered up to that bad boy, made the first few moves, and put in my first piece about 8 feet up. Then I dug in for the crux. A couple of moves into the crux and I started to waver a bit, so I down-climbed, took another look, then started up again. I felt a bit ... more >>

Comments: I finally spanked this crack today, after 3 years of trying. Maybe it's because it was finally dry.

Comments: A little history I got off the web (care of Richard Goldstone):The Peter in Peter's Project is Peter Gardiner, not Pete Cleveland. I can't remember Michael's last name (as in Michael's Project). These were climbers from the Universtity of Chicago who climbed at Devil's Lakein the late fifties and early sixties. I met and climbed with PeterGardiner in 1961; Peter's and Michael's projects had already beenclimbed. I climbed at Devil's Lake from '61 to '66; I think PeteClevela... more >>

Comments: My buddy and I climbed this today and he did his first-ever lead on it. The line up the dihedral is challenging but straightforward. The top section is nice and exposed, so don't stop once you finish the dihedral. Go all the way to the top of the pinnacle!

Comments: I climbed this again today and really enjoyed it. The crux might look like it's at the roof, but it's actually above the roof in the awkward crack. The width is just never quite right. Great easier climb with juggy holds to make the roof relatively straightforward.

Comments: To keep the difficulty sustained when you get to the tower, climb straight up the south face (instead of going to the right at the top of the shallow dihedral) and do a tough mantel to reach the biners at the top.
