Comments: I'm itching to check this place out now, is there other bouldering/climbing in the immediate area or just the one dws line? (which is still plenty for me to take the drive) Also I was hoping for claification on the driections, I'll post a map which shows where I would think to park but am not sure as first stop signs are not noted on googlemaps. Thanks for the beta on a DWS place in CT, I have heard rumours and now they are confirmed! (If anyone is brave to DWS at night, brownstone quaries has 2... more >>

Comments: Wish I read this earlier when we went tubing down the river, would have been fun to scramble for some lunch w/ a view as this parking lot is also where we parked to put our tubes in. Anyways I am going back as much as I can for the rest of the summer now that I have cought the tubing bug and was wondering if anyone had some climbing beta for the area for a change of pace from tubing. I saw on a trail map a look out called turkey vulture ledges on the american legion side, but never made it out t... more >>

Comments: Just currious, has anyone heard any factual storries of climbers being fined for falling on a dws route here?

I have climbed 3 times here since the ban and have never been talked to and all the other climbers I have talked to there have not been fined or know anyone that has. We had a police boat motor by when we were climbing 2 walls down from whipporwill and they didn't even stop to watch if we fell, they just motored on by. To me it seems they are trying to stop drunk rednecks from dying as ... more >>

Comments: I am starting to get a good collection of CT bouldering locations and was wondering if anyone wanted to meet up, share places, and go bouldering. I really don't care if it is private or public, I just want to find all the tucked away jems. If you have any secret spots please let me know (send pm or something) and we can work a time to go climb. I have a few places too that are off the radar I would be willing to share as well. I just don't want these places posted to the internet for access reas... more >>

Comments: Went back over weekend to boulder. Here are some updates.

There are a couple of route climbs here in addition to zee crack. left of zee crack is a small crack seam that climbs past a piton. Up the hill from Zee Crack is some hi ball bouldering or short TR climbs, as well as some fun traverses. (Has big vertical split that is a great no hands rest) There is a fun V2ish boulder problem starting on the low horizontal that goes up and left through little crimps and a 2 finger dish.

On the boulder ... more >>

Comments: Agreed, the homeowners have good reason to be bummed about this situation. Parking on one side of the street is a good idea too for emergency vehicles. Furthermore, we don't need to park in the closest available parking spot. Drive down the road a bit to park and walk an extra 50 - 100 yards. It's nothing compared to the total hike in front of us and it would do wonders for climber relations if every car wasn't parked in front of the same houses, every day. I wouldn't get pissed if there were so... more >>

Comments: Does anyone know some good cheap cabins around the lake? I have tent camped across from the parking lot at the lake @ mountain lake campgrounds but that is like 10 bucks a person per night. Dont want to camp the dam etiher and figured I'd live it up a bit this year, also want ac for that july heat!! I have heard good stuff about carnifax ferry cottages with 1 good review online.

Either way I figure I could get a cabin for less than tent camping if we have a group of 6. I also found for 30 a ni... more >>

Comments: There are two decent problems on the two aretes on the boulder mentioned behind zee crack. Either arete is fun (the overhanging side) and the close one (cliff side) prolly comes in around v2-4ish from the sitstart. A buddy from Go-V said it was called cigarette but have no idea the name. If ever back in town I'll try to get some pics of sw CT areas. (this and the very little on mt laurell is all that anyone has up here)

Comments: Isn't that a picture playing around on the roofs just to the left of pegasus? The corner to climbers right def looks like pegasus.

Comments: The sit start is wicked hard only because keeping your leg off the tree is very hard to do. (your body wants to swing into the tree once your butt is ariborn) Would be a really fun climb if the tree was elsewhere/gone. Stupid trees! As one of the few "open" bouldering spots in CT I'll try to get a few pictures up of this place.

Comments: I assume the overhanging finger to hand crack you mentioned is God's Crack. I had heard it to be a sandbagged (like a lot of CT climbs) V3. I would peg it probably at v4 but I'll V6 is acceptable. It's only a #. For me it goes small hands to fists, and the last 2 feet or so of the crack is just off width enough that I can't get any more jams. The difficulty greatly depends on hand size and crack skill.
