Location: CO : Caņon City : Shelf Road : Sand Gulch : Free Form Wall : Barney (5.9) By: SurlyClimber When: Mar 27, 2006 | view comment >> | Comments: While this route is described as a "bolted crack climb", it is not in reality a crack climb. The thing is climbed on jugs and pockets with nary a jam. Several bolts with homemade hangers need to be replaced, and the anchor bolts are little eyebolts that also need to be replaced.

Location: CO : Golden : North Table Mountain/Golden... : Overhang Area : In Between the Lines (5.9-) By: SurlyClimber When: Mar 19, 2006 | view comment >> | Comments: Probably fair at 9- but I find the 8+ on the arete to the right to be more challenging from the mental perspective. The first bolt on this one is not that hairy compared to the bolting of other routes at Table.

Location: CO : Golden : North Table Mountain/Golden... : Overhang Area : Pack 'o Bobs (5.7) By: SurlyClimber When: Mar 19, 2006 | view comment >> | Comments: I actually thought that "Another Unamed Billy Bob Route", which goes at 5.7+ in the guidebook, was easier than this route. Pulling the overhang at the start of this one can feel insecure unless you find the nice bomber hold inside the crack on the right. Alternatively, jam in the crack.

Location: CO : Golden : Clear Creek Canyon : High Wire Crag : Ace in the Hole (5.10a) By: SurlyClimber When: Mar 6, 2006 | view comment >> | Comments: This is a nice climb that deserves more stars, particularly if 5th of July is rated at 4.5 stars. This climb is not much harder than 5th but you have to think a bit more at a couple of spots.

Location: CO : Golden : Clear Creek Canyon : High Wire Crag : Deuces Wild (5.10a) By: SurlyClimber When: Mar 6, 2006 | view comment >> | Comments: Pitch 1 goes at harder than a Clear Creek 10a, at least compared to other climbs of that grade in the Canyon (e.g. Ace in the Hole, Jellicle Cats, MacCavity). I would say the pitch 1 crux is getting to the anchors. To make the anchors you have to traverse left from a good stance across a face with little in the way of hands or feet. The section between the first and second bolt at the start of the pitch is balancy, but at least there are holds, particlarly if you stay left of the bol... more >>
