Comments: Yo Adminstrator , It seems many Punters enjoy this climb as much as I did bitd. Let's see if we can scrounge someone up who can give this a more worthy description. Hopefully some hapless soul who had an epic on it or some other sordid story. We (DLFA)first heard of this climb from Pete C. He was always trying to sandbag us. I remember leading it a few times in a swami belt and eb,s and some cheap swill. I will stick with the 5.10d rating.....go figure. Thanks and good luck.

Comments: Cool to see this finally get bolted. John and I top roped this when we put up That's Weak in 1996 and even pissed on it by installing a bolt at the corner but then moved on to other stuff. The upper pitch looks good too.

Comments: For strictly historical purposes only, it should be noted that we (DLFA ) did some of the bouldering on the north shore back in the late 70,s and early 80,s . Mostly the stuff near the east bluff trail and elephant rock etc. These were usually done on a lark when the weather or hangovers prohibited us from or usual roped climbing escapades. I don't recall doing anything to hard, just the more obvious lines although some of this crew had been known to pull down on occasion. I am not trying to mak... more >>

Comments: James, I am pretty sure the direct was done a very long time ago. We use to spend hours bouldering and swilling here doing every possible variation our twisted little minds could dream up and then some circa mid 70,s to early 80,s. This was before EZ showed up at the lake. And we were pretty sure most of our "brilliant" variations had already been done....think John Gill and a few other strong climbers who pulled down on these long before us. Thanks for posting the other tombstone stuff brings ... more >>

Comments: Great route. As for the name, Chip told me after they did the FA they asked Derek what they should name it, and with out any hesitation, Derek proclaimed "Liquor Mart!" Club salute for Sheaf Stout.

Comments: Madisonchoss, your welcome. I like to try and keep the history accurate and provide some stories to go with some of the routes. The history and the stories can make a route come alive. Almost every first lead has some kinda story. Peace NOW PUKE

Comments: Does anyone have a copy of Ryan Hansen,s guide book to Necedah they could copy and send me? I would love to check it out for historical purposes and compare with my times there in the early eighties. Thanks.
On a side note we use to call it the Country Club Crags due to the Restaurant and bar across the street from the cliffs. Many a margarita was consumed there after a day of climbing and a swim in the river. The area always seemed pretty relaxed during our time. Peace and you know what. St... more >>

Comments: First lead Steve Sangdahl and Rob Lemon 1982. This one was hard. I remember old Rob was worried I was gonna rip gear and land on him. I assured him it was better if I landed on him than the ground and that he would be fulfilling his belayer obligations to the highest level. Rob wasn't buying it. Rob was a great friend and true DLFA character,he passed away a few years ago. He was a Buddhist at heart. Can we name this something other than viagra? I propose "The Dali Lama". Hope that doesn't sound... more >>

Comments: We called this one "User Friendly" There were no pins or bolts on it and no sign of previous ascents or an anchor on top.Given its grade and the fact that I remember soloing it and down climbing it multiple times I,m pretty sure someone had done it before. Maybe some Native American. Rob lemon and I did this about 1981.

Comments: This one was led by my late brother of f-nes Rich Bechler and myself 1982 . Not really sure what old Prunes named it but probably something NOT politically correct! Leo, thanks for the nod.

Comments: I actually believe this was first led by my friend Jack Klein and myself in 1981. I remember this was A climb that Jack picked out for himself to lead and he wasn't gonna-let me do it first ! I guess I might have been a lead hog. He named it after some Black Sabbath song. Can't remember what.

Comments: Peter, I,m always interested in the gear for these bold ass DL leads. Not because I,m going to come out there and try it ( beyond me anyway) but the gear used gives one a window into the twisted mind of the leader of these types of things. Sounds like nothing bigger than a #5 hb, which ain't very big. It's awesome that you led Bagatelle and this back to back! After just one of those we(dlfa) would have started the party right then and there. I remember Bagatelle pretty well but not much ab... more >>
