Comments: Just a quick note. I will adding to this site periodically as I just started climbing there last year. I should have the beta for all the routes completed by early-to-mid summer. Also there are more Reno/Carson City climbing areas to come.

Comments: Climbing under the arch is done by smearing and small handholds in the small crack under the arch. Protection under the arch is accomplished by using small stoppers, hexes and mini-cams. We did it in two pitches to reduce rope drag. Our first belay was at the end of the arch. The second belay was at the trees. We have seen other climbers do this in one pitch, but the rope drag at get really bad at the end. The second pitch is relatively easy.

Comments: Located in the Ruby Mountains, Lomoille Canyon is called the Yosemite of Nevada because like Yosemite it was carved by glaciers, as evidenced by the U shaped valley and moraines on the valley floor. I was there this past November (2005) to scout the area for future climbing. I found a few bolted routes right off the road, but didn't have time to get to the cliffs and crags that line the road up the canyon.
