Comments: You can link p1 and p2, p3 and p4, p5 and p6, and then the 5.7 and 5.8 pitch after the Acraphobes with a 60m rope(different pitch numbers in different guidebooks). The drag would be pretty severe on p.13 to p.14. :)

Also, there is a short-cut that we missed on the hike to the Acraphobes; look for the lovely totem.

Comments: Gear: Worth saving a very large nut or #1 camalot for the last 10 feet. Exquisite, especially for tiny hands: perfect finger-locks and ring-locks the entire well!!!

Comments: On the gear question: My partner dropped our #4.5 camalot while he was in the offwidth/chimney section of P2. He placed one #4 once and we both severely regret the size/weight of the rack that we brought.

I recommend: LOTS of nuts because, oh my gosh, the stunning granite takes it like nothing on earth. Fabulous passive pro. Bring doubles of camalots .5-2, a 3 and maybe a #4 if you like to be super-comfortable, but I wouldn't bother with big gear if I climbed it again.

Comments: ANTS! ANTS! OMIGOD, ANTS!!!!!!

We pitched this out in 8 to keep ahead of the hoards behind us. On guidebook P3/our P2, the pitch with the incredible flake system to incredible corners, there was a huge nest of biting red ants. My belayer and I both got swarmed, and when I say swarmed, I mean thousands. And no, neither of us were on anything. If you squish them, it emits a noxious smell, and our theory is that this makes the colony swarm, so avoid squishing them if possible.

Comments: There is no "easy" way on the top pitch. You can do a weird double-right-angles-rope-drag-from-hell 5.9 (the right variation) or the absolutely-unprotected-but-easier-5.9 direct. After going up with a Yosemite virgin and a Yosemite old-timer, we both agreed that the direct (left) option was preferable.

Comments: Objective hazards: The red biting ants that caused us much misery on the East Butt of Middle Cathedral Rock are all over the two lowest rappel stations. Try to avoid squishing them at any costs since, we hypothesize, the noxious smell causes the rest to swarm.

Gear: We saw three mangled metolius cams (orange and yellow) on the top pitches. We did it on camalots and had no issues (bring doubles on the .5s and .75s and plan to bump), but if you climb on metolius, just be wary.

Comments: Definitely sandbagged. Only 5.7 if OWs are your passion and joy. Gets better after the first pitch.

Comments: Fewer people, totally stunning, moderate route up the back of the White Giant. Do it early in the season to avoid having to do massive hauls around the bergschrund.

Comments: Favorite wall on the creek so far for the ladies. My hands are approx. WC .75-1 for "perfect hands", had a total blast all day up there. Afternoon shade, quiet. DO BRING THE 70 and a couple of nuts and brassies if you're looking at Hayduke.
