Comments: Do the climbing community a favor, drill a few more holes in this and return it back to the rubble heap it is.

Comments: Quite good and surprisingly sustained, rate it 5.9. The subsidiary flake at the crux is questionable for protection, take Ivan's advice and carry several # 4's.

Comments: I know this is the first pitch of a longer route, but standing alone, this pitch is a pile with a poorly placed bolt at the roof.

Comments: Perhaps a bit of mass hysteria here, unless B and V have a 2nd pitch planned, i'd have left it to the mosses.

Comments: To beat this dead horse again...Bob's 1st pitch variation is better than the old obscure way of traversing in from the far right, overbolted or not. Regardless of the bolt placements or who did the 1st free ascent of the sentrybox this is a great pitch. Bobby D's all right with me....

Comments: I'm thinking the bolts on Pitch 1 are ok? Pitch #2 where On Ballet goes horizontally right and this route straight up, I've twice gone leftward, low across a slab, airy 5.8, clipped a modern bolt then up an easy arete to the 2 bolt anchor below the new bolted corner. Short but good pitch....

Comments: Ivan. Chuck & Ken; like I said ; "90% trad".... Guess Bob will have to scratch this one from his FAs. Granted the 10% sport on Direct Cop Out is definitely his. Who's this cowboy Mugatu?

Comments: The secret here is how you can call this 5.10? Very strangely if not dangerously bolted and the flared, trad protected finish is gut wrenching.

Comments: After the many happy hands and feet that have scrapped up this fine climb; we can safely say this is barely 5.10, including the traverse left to avoid the angry wide section.

Comments: Pitch #1 as David describes is "Precipitation".Definately 5.9 and better to belay on "Precipitation's" fixed slings.

Comments: D.Snively,J.Belser and myself did a direct start to "Under the Big Top"aka:"Under Babylon" 5.10+.Start up "Idiot Wind"/ leftmost of the Nose variations ,then cut left up a thin crack and foot traverse.Bridge past a 3/8thby2.25in. stainless steel bolt and a bulge to a fine finger /hand crack Belay at fixed slings on "Precipitation".Definately an upgrade to this big time adventure.

Comments: FA: Harry Kent, S.Kimball 1976. Way good. Pitch #1 up the crystal band is not run out??, trucker Tricam or sideways stopper. Pitch #2 killer 5.7/8 stemming all good pro and clean.

Comments: Pitch #1 as described is a poor choice, better to climb the thin left arching crack a few steps west ,but still east of GRAPEVINE.When the crack ends faceclimb right on black incut holds to the belay. This is beautiful 5.8 and 9 climbing, protectable the whole way with small wires and tcu's.For what its worth D.Snivley and I did a variation to Pitch#2.Move out left and mantle up some large flakes then work up for pro in the regular line. Move out left and just before reaching GRAPEVIN... more >>

Comments: Ivan is being generous with this routes quality (can we say crap?) I've always had a problem trusting the single piece of protection at the crux roof.
