Comments: Noone hates unnamed problems more than me, and Chris IS the man, but I think that naming a problem that you have nothing to do with is unethical.

Comments: Chris, I have to assume that you are claiming the FA for every problem that you name. This problem was established at least 15 years ago!

Comments: From Wolfe's 1979 edition - "...a small formation known variously as the Quail Springs Picnic Area, The Wye, Trashcan Rock or just Picnic Area."

I guess Trashcan Rock stuck!

Comments: Bartlett also refers to it as Trashcan Rock, yet the old Wolfe guides call it Quail Springs. Curious?

Comments: I watched Joe Morgan climb this thing in around 2001. It looked so shitey that I didn't bother putting it in the guide.

Comments: Looked like the whole hillside was strip-mined for this project. It took me like an hour to tear this "pile" apart and restore the desert to its original state.

Comments: According to Lechlinski, the stray bolt on the right is not part of the route Black Diamond. My recollection from leading the route (4 times maybe, for redpoint)was - a stout .12a move down low lead to a stretch of easy .10 to a heady .11b deadpoint move, followed by the most brilliant stretch of .11a in Josh.

Comments: I have not heard of anyone linking this up (aside from myself), but with nearly 40 years of people bouldering in this cave, its very likely that it has been done before.

Comments: A chunk of rock came out from behind the starting undercling, making the undercling larger. Not sure how this affects the grade, but it must be easier.

Comments: Fair enough Russ. Its clear that you don't like me. I will appologise once again for being a pretentious a$$ in that email I sent you a decade ago.

For the record though, I will always be psyched to meet you and the crew from the early days, and it will always be my goal to compile the most accurate info I can.

This site is a pretty broad canvas, and is a good indicator of whats common knowledge in JT history.

Kevitation is out, Mike Paul will be credited for Pigpen, and hopefully, any othe... more >>

Comments: The problem is that nobody knows what the real story is! None of you oldtimers have an interest in communicating with the rest of us.

JT bouldering has the most incredible history, its such a shame that we don't know the details.

Nothing would make me happier than to fill in all the blanks and to give credit where credit is due.

Tell us Russ, ...please

Comments: Cool! I have had friends (5.blabla climbers) attempt it without success. They went along with the "broken holds" excuse. Good to see people repeating this stuff.

p.s. What ever happened to Diamond Dave Lee?

Comments: Starts at a high pinch/edge/sidepull on the arete. Harder to start for shorty's, get both hands on it, makes it easier to pull off the ground.
