But man, the guy's got an eye with that camera!

Comments: Lemme get this straight:
"pro to 2.5"
"right-leaning offwidth"
Fortunately this discrepancy is obvious enough from the base...

Comments: If one were to bring, say, 4x #1 Camalots along, one would have both pro for the second pitch and for the anchor at its top. Without this things get a little scrappy, especially since the belay is pretty much fully hanging.

Then go check out the relics at the top of the chimney..

Comments: We actually climbed a kind of exhilaratingly T-Wall-esque topout variation- rather than going left to the chimney, stayed m/l straight up on exposed arete and facey ledges and stuff. Kinda heads-up, 5.8 or -9.
I emailed Roger Breedlove about the anchor and he basically said "call Jim, it was his show."

Comments: A topout variation to the right avoids the wide via finger-sized laybacking through a series of corners, 5.9.
Rapping with 2 60's is pretty straightforward. Bring a big piece of webbing/cordelette in case the slung boulder on top has been unslung.

Comments: I decided to aid the corner on my clean gear before I started nailing, and got to the anchors without having to pull up the hammer. This was in about 1994. Some fixed heads were involved near the top, but otherwise I was able to get up it with my less-than-state-of-the-art rack of that era. So folks with consideration for the resource might hold off on the bashing before following the exhortation to start nailing right off the ledge. It's still the only place I've ever got to stand on a 0 RP... more >>

Comments: Some beta that was useful to me:
after the terrace of the several choices, a longish leftward-trending rampy thing heads up and left towards some clean grey-white bongo flakes. The goal is to reach these, which are probably 350' above and to the left of the terrace. Above this runs a system which should get you to the top; a couple fixed pins will reassure you that the system has in fact been climbed before.
Awesome summit, too!

Comments: Does it say more about the country, or about the visitors, that every time the talk turns to Morocco the topic quickly turns to hustlers and how to avoid them?
I think, Paul, that staying in that nice hotel in Tafraoute and getting around in your rent-a-car might exempt you from a lot of the situations that generate all this talk. Folks who try and tour the entire country on the cheap could have a different view. I won't presume to say whose is more correct. Three sentences on the charm of t... more >>
