Comments: Since the "locals" have been such prix about revealing Homespank, here's how to find it. It's about 8 miles on up the road. Just before [about 200 yards before] - the road start climbing left into the switchback you'll usually see several cars parked along the flat. This is where you'll eventually park. However, continue on up the road, and upon exiting the righthand switchback you'll be on a shelf road. In less than a mile you'll come around a left hand turn and see the Homestake Dam for the f... more >>

Comments: As someone else mentioned - that "new" (it was there last summer) corner route seemed 9+/10a.

There's another way to get there. You can drive up from Rudei Reservoir. Road is paved from Basalt to FR 512, then it's a much shorter dirt section than coming up from Eagle.

Comments: RE: Rattlesnakes Fri 7/23 4:15pm Encountered one - approx 36" x 1 1/4" rattler partially on the trail about 100ft East of the actual cliff. Suspect was completely silent until we rolled rocks it's way, activating its warning system. Lots of poison ivy along the trail, too.

Be alert as these snakes are apparently not required to warn of their presence.

Comments: This route is immediately left of Spiney Dan. Yes, there is a dangerous detached column you have to deal with about 1/2 way up and extending above the traverse left to the anchors. We were concerned enough to alert the party next door on S Dan to possible rockfall. Probably wouldn't get on it again.

Comments: If you keep right - like right on the arete- the bolt placement is perfect. the rock is nicer there and the climb feels more exciting [read exposure] as you glance down into the Suburbia alcove. The layback/stem/jam crux at the anchors offers an interesting change of pace. Fun warm-up

Comments: "Climbing at Tallulah Gorge began in the 70s," Actually, climbing there began in the '60s with a US Army unit nailing what we called Army Angle [the exact same route Bert Reynolds did "free" in the movie Deliverance] in '67 we removed 10 or more nice Army Angle pitons from that and another line - I still have one of them somewhere.

A group of five Ga Tech students "discovered" the gorge in '67 and made climbing trips there practically every [dry] weekend for the next several years. These in... more >>
