A couple of local guides out for some re-certification hot on our heels. They passed us, and then got lost (guides??). We caught them and had to wait on the last pitch.

Once on top, they disappeared fast. Apparently, they had done the descent before.

Comments: I am so sorry to hear that Mystery Achievement has been retro-bolted. What was one of the best routes at Upper Breadloaves is now gone. I have climbed this route dozens of times and recommended it as a true adventure climb to many friends. It took (past tense) confidence and composure; it was protectable with patience and skill. Now, apparently, just another super easy clip up to dispatch of on the way around the rock.

Mystery Achievement is no longer an achievem... more >>

Comments: You can scramble down from this route by heading north along the ridge crest. Some downclimbing at the very end before hooking up with the trail back to the base - should you ever find yourself on top without a rope.

Comments: A funny story of my first attempt at the Diving Board - probably 1975:

Mark Ward and I drove over from Provo, Utah to work the classics. XM, Outer Space, Blackwalk, etc. Mark was belaying from the Pigeon Flake while I lead pitch two. I ran it out a bit much, and just as I pulled into the ‘cave’ belay, my hands slipped off and I kicked myself straight back into space. Went the whole pitch, ending up about 10’ below the belay.

Both of us had on two inch swami belts (the standard 'red'). Everyt... more >>

Comments: I think it was Summit - around 1975. Mark Ward and I did a little article on Little Cottonwood and we shared slides, that's how I got a copy of this old picture.

Comments: You can downclimb from the Hostess Gully routes (also Big Time) by going to the north side and downclimb the narrow arete to a big ledge, then move back southwest onto the vertical face and with some back and forth traversing, you end up at the top of the Hostess Gully - should you ever find yourself on top without a rope.

Probably 5.5 after you have done it a few times.

Comments: You can easily downclimb from Cruel Shoes or Dykes by heading south down the low angle ridge line and then a little east near the bottom - should you ever find yourself on top without a rope

Comments: You can downclimb from routes on the west side of Parking Lot Rock. Head south along the top to the final chain anchors. About 15' of 5.5 from the top leads to easier rock - the hardest moves are dropping onto the face below the chains - should you ever find yourself on top without a rope.

Comments: You can downclimb Morning Glory Spire on the south side - probaly 5.5/6 - should you ever find yourself on top without a rope.
