Comments: The background is a stucco wall. I really had to zoom in to fill the frame. The scorpion was about 2" long. These guys are underground when it gets really cold....

Comments: It's good to see that these boulders are getting some attention. We did a bunch of problems here in the late 90's and the moss grows back fast. I think there will be much more with some exploration in the woods. Also along 44, the Plum Valley boulders are located a couple miles from the overlook east of Old Station in Plum Valley. They are good quality basalt with decent landings and some nice tall problems. www.mountainproject.com/v/... more >>

Comments: Ben, I'm planning to add all of the LOTL crags at some point. I have kept detailed records for most of the routes (the ones I put up and others) from the day I first found the crags but there are a few that I probably don't know about. I'm working out of the area for the summer and all of my notes are in Arcata. It's going to be a big job to add all of the LOTL crags, so maybe I could use some help at some point. PM me if you want.

Comments: Many of the lines on Karen Rock would make for some nice leads but due to the wide variety of beach users and complaints of desecration by local tribes, climbers have only replaced existing bolts for safety. The management plan for the beach suggested several scenarios at Moonstone that included removing all bolts or not replacing the old ones. A decision was not issued as the tribes did not pursue the removal of the bolts BUT the issue could be revisited at any time, so climbers have not pushed... more >>

Comments: Although people tend to use the road frequently, it is private property and the family that owns it has had issues specifically with climbers. The tribe and family members use the road for OHV access and they actually rode up to me and ordered me down from a boulder citing liability issues. Some years, no one seems to care and then there is a flare up. Climbers have even had shots fired over their heads but that hasn't happened for a while.....

Comments: This route doesn't have a name as far as I've heard. The "shallow dihedral" was once the home of a large fin of rock that fell off a few years ago. The resulting dihedral now allows gear.....

Comments: I guess Land of the Lost is getting popular enough and there are enough routes that I should put all of my route info on MP. I've been waiting to "do it right" with all of the history and photos. It will probably be later in the Fall before I can get it done but if anyone has any route questions feel free to email me.

Comments: Try asking Tom. He's usually at Far North on Wednesdays when the weather isn't good enough outside. He knows about most of the routes in the Trinities.

Comments: Taylor,
I've heard that the LOTL gate is closed as are others along FS1 with the same signs. I am assuming the FS is citing fire danger as the reason but please post if you find something out.

Comments: Several years ago, Moonstone was going through a new management plan. Local tribal members were trying to get climbing banned and wanted all bolts removed(even TR anchors). Due to other priority issues, climbing was not addressed but most have felt that adding new bolts might affect future access.

Comments: Yes, the Grotto is spectacular. There is one photo on the main Redwood Coast page but the area should be added....
