Location: NM : Santa Fe Area : Diablo Canyon : Cockscomb Crag : Chicken Little Area : Chicken Little (5.11d) By: Rick Bradshaw When: Mar 23, 2012 | view comment >> | Comments: A fairly crucial hold broke off a few years ago making the start sequence more difficult, which may make the 11d rating seem/be a letter grade low. It's still good fun, just a bit harder on the ego...

Location: NM : Santa Fe Area : Diablo Canyon : Early Wall : Early Wall - Left End : Rope Burn in Hell (5.12b/c) By: Rick Bradshaw When: May 27, 2011 | view comment >> | Comments: I got on this route this year for the first time since we established it ~10 years ago and found it safer, more fun, and harder than I'd remembered. It appears that it has seen very few ascents, perhaps because of the name or because of its relative isolation for the grade. Regardless, while I still feel it only deserves 2*s it is definitely worth doing. I took several falls at the crux, a 4 move bolder problem, which resulted in bruises only to my ego.

Location: NM : Jemez Valley Area : Upper East Fork : Spaghetti Western Wall Area : Schadenfreude (5.11c) By: Rick Bradshaw When: Oct 1, 2010 | view comment >> | Comments: The controversy on the bolting of this route and it's neighbor Cowboy Coffee, along with the fact that they were in the morning shade, had me on both several times this summer as warmups for the SW Wall. I hadn't been on this route since Josh and I put it up, and despite the disparaging words on the bolting I found the route to be better than I remembered. I'm 5'8" and was able to work out beta that was all within reach. As with Cowboy Coffee, the bottom is tricky but with beta it is true to gra... more >>

Location: NM : Jemez Valley Area : Upper East Fork : Spaghetti Western Wall Area : Cowboy Coffee (5.11b) By: Rick Bradshaw When: Oct 1, 2010 | view comment >> | Comments: The controversy on the bolting of this route and it's neighbor Schadenfreude, along with the fact that they were in the morning shade, had me on both several times this summer as warmups for the SW Wall. This climb is super fun, requiring balance, technique, and a bit of brawn. The bolt placements are well thought out and safe (requiring an attentive belayer at the bottom as is always true), given the ever-present variables at UEF of rock quality and rope drag. The first 12 feet are hard ... more >>

Location: NM : Santa Fe Area : Diablo Canyon : Cockscomb Crag : The Other Side : Spring Chicken (5.11c/d) By: Rick Bradshaw When: May 14, 2010 | view comment >> | Comments: This route is actually about 100 feet left of The Other Side, just left of Wishbone. It was named after over-hearing some climbers say that Bradshaw aint no Spring Chicken...
