Comments: I jumped off the right side of the point landing on smoother slabby stuff. I was happy to have the sticky rubber on.

Comments: A great variation is to stay off of the arete and just use the cracks. Fun jams!

Comments: I'm not sure where the 5.10a comes from. This climb involves solid hand and fist jams. It is sustained and sharp, but no harder than 5.8.

Comments: I wouldn't recommend running the top out. There is a thin move near the anchors and a slip would be fatal.

Comments: Bring on the dogs, but please keep 'em on leash. The last time I was at Shelf, two happy rambling hounds decided to have a wrestling match on my rope right when my partner was run-out at a difficult crux. It was a very disconcerting experience trying to keep my partner safe with a good belay in the middle of the doggy mayhem. Then on the hike out, I had to walk by another large dog that was not on leash and was growling at me. The owner said, “don't worry he doesn't bite”, but he still scare... more >>

Comments: Does anyone know the name of the small crag along the Arkansas River 2.5 miles West of Cotopaxi? There are several bolted climbs on the crag.

Comments: I can attest to the disagreeable food at Keating. While working there as a dishwasher in the late 70s, one day I helped unload a truck load of beef. It was labeled “USDA Grade DD – but edible”.

Comments: Cameron. I agree that special areas do need "management", but I struggle with the idea that management includes building a visitor center. If the Eldorado visitor center is necessary, I would rather have it located outside of the canyon itself. Also, I think they still charge you even if you walk in.

Comments: This climb has it all: slab, mantle, undercling, layback, crimp and face. Be sure to bring a #1 and #2 to anchor your belayer.

Comments: Not the most aesthetic climb, but fun moves throughout. The bolt line for the top portion of the climb takes a hard left at the overhang and then comes back right again to the anchors. Best to use a long sling on your cam/nut placement before taking the hard left.

Comments: This face route seems contrived because it is hard to stay out of the crack and the bolts are run out if you stay on the face. The traverse at the start may be dangerous for the second because when the first piece is taken out there is ground fall potential for the second (with rope stretch) or an ugly swing.

Comments: There seems to be a newer bolt before the original "1st Bolt", and I don't believe the route now deserves an "R" rating.
Also, the crux is a very interesting sequence of moves that I look forward to doing again. Good route (by Table standards anyway).

Comments: From the P1 anchors to the ground is right at 30 meters. So, with your knots you may come up about 3 meters short if you are being lowered with a 60 meter rope. Be sure your belayer is tied in. I had to untie about 8 feet up and downclimb to the ground.

Comments: A large portion of this area is closed from April 1st to August 1st every year due to Peregrine Falcon nesting. I believe the closure applies to all of the Tanner Dome Complex. You can be fined up to $5,000 and be imprisoned for up to 6 months for violating the closure. The program seems to be working, because I saw a pair of Peregrine's soaring on 5/14/06. I believe the other formations in the area are open.
