Comments: Hey Allen. Great shot of Chuck!
Two things though.
1: It's a good thing that was easy ground for Chuck because he has his leg entangled with the clips.
And 2: I think this is actually the start to Zig Zag.

Comments: The 135 feet is from the ground to the anchor. It includes the first half of the approach route. Fine Whine goes straight (5 bolts) up the overhanging wall above the ledge that connects AC and LH.

Comments: When we did it small cams didn't exist for us either. I do remember some wickedly cool, "text book" tricams, but I don't recall if we even had any cams in those dirt bag days. A couple of decades ago that little bolt on the 3rd pitch actually inspired confidence. All in all a stellar Black Canyon route. It has it all. Great position, phun climbing, a little spice, and a Black Cayoneering style exit. What more could you ask for?

Comments: I really enjoyed this route though I didn't lead. A couple years back I was hanging around and met some nice folks up at the AC corner one day and they let me clean it. I thought it was a brilliant climb. The critical crystal is such a cool feature that is worth two stars all by itself. The free hanging rap to the ground let's you know how steep it is and explained why my arms were so pumped. This is a very worthy climb...for a sport route.

Comments: Scott, yes Tom's dog Charley (what a great dog) took the big, big one off the traverse from the top of the main buttress. That traverse is really desperate. It is comprised of steeply slopping, boiler plate slabs covered in ball bearing gravel. Charley some how survived fairly unscathed.

Comments: Did a great 5.10c alpine route on this with Pulaski back in the seventies.
It goes up the left edge of the white arrowhead shaped feature in the photo above.

Comments: Ha HA HA funny picture. The dude in the red shirt looks like he just ripped a loud one and the guy in the foreground looks like he can't believe he did it in mixed company.

Comments: I did this route a loooooooong time ago. I remember it being outstandingly fun. But when we did it there were no established anchors on top. Which made getting off more of s concern than getting up. I have nightmares about the marginal mank we rapped off. Has there been permanent anchors established?

Comments: This is a great climb. Just enough adventure to keep you focused but not enough to be desperate. My partner and I did it many, many moons ago. He broke a rigid Chouinard crampon in the middle of the crux and had to finish out with it hanging from his ankle. We walked off the North face with no raps. A lot of work and a little chossy but in those days raps were last resort.

It is the Chasm Wall North rim.
