Comments: This is definitely where High Cliff's next "hard" routes are coming from.

Comments: I'm thinking about about going to UM-Duluth for college. What other climbing crags are close to Duluth?...Any information on the school would be great great too. Thanks.

Comments: I was working this cave yesterday and I was able to complete the route by detouring right to a flake (white circle in picture). It was harder than the original but not by a lot. I was also able to stick the dead point to the pocket a couple times. I believe the crux of the direct route is not going to be the move to the pocket, but the move after. Good Luck!

Comments: How big is the park, or how much climbing is there?

Comments: You can do some mediocre bouldering on the face that faces the parking lot (The wall in the picture), but some better bouldering is around the corner to the left of this face. Of what I can remember, The wall is pretty tall and pretty sloppy but overall pretty decent if you're stopping by.

Comments: I really like climbing at Necedah, but I always get a little lost. I was wondering if anyone could make a little map of the bluff showing where the different areas are.

Comments: After reading about these boulders, I looked at my topo map and realized that I have seen these boulders too. I remember you could see one heavily graffiti boulder from the highway. I never checked them out, but they look pretty thin and pretty hard! Looks like it could be some decent climbing though.

Comments: I was here a couple days ago... This area has really loose rock- I broke off 3 holds. If you find the good stuff some really nice climbs. However, unfortunately, the middle bulge that looks like awesome climbing is very loose and mainly where I broke the three holds.

Comments: I think a more 5.10a route would cut to the right to the huge ledge after the roof and then work up and to the left. Staying committed to the seam after the roof, I think, is more like 5.11. I might be a little easier for taller people because they might be able to skip the ugly finger jams.

Comments: Amazingly, I talked with my friend Mike Taylor yesterday and he said he managed to stick the complete deadpoint from the huge bucket (blue circle in pic) to the pocket (green circle). I have no idea how he did this at all, but it shows that the direct way is still (somehow) possible. He didn't manage to get the entire route, just that one move, so... the "new" first ascent of the direct route is still up for grabs.

Comments: Has anyone climbed to the left of the 5.8 Crack? I have always looked at it and I have heard it is nice climbing. Anybody else's advice?

Comments: I gave the 5.8 Crack 4 stars because it is one of the favorites at High Cliff. It is very cool climbing from the beginning until the top when it starts getting a little chossy. Definitely a route you need to get on when climbing at High Cliff.

Comments: When you start in the cove and move up to the big ledge, the next hold used to be a small crimp. From this crimp, you went to the two finger pocket. I'll put a picture up to show you and then I'll delete it later.

Comments: Mike- I'm I'll put the picture up right now. I'll put it up under Harappan Civilization though.
Jay- When I do this route I'm to short to be able to use the foot- jam. But, I would agree that with it, it makes it easier. On the other note, the blue line has been done before. Some people who I know have done it (and seen it) are Adam Glass and Mike Taylor. I have just started working this variation and it is much harder then the right.

Comments: Today, unfortunately, a key crimp broke off this route. This makes this route much, much harder again. It still seems possible, but will require LOTS of work.
Now, you'll have a complete deadpoint to a very precise 2-3 finger pocket. The crimp allowed you to hit this before the pocket.
Good luck, and let us know when someone does it again.

Comments: Jay, I will be willing to change the name of this if you want. I only call it Poison Berry because when one of my buddies and I climbed this, at the top-out section, there was some kind of berry plant. We always seemed to get some berries in out mouths topping it out. They did taste pretty bad so I'm hoping there weren't poisonous.

I also agree that High Cliff needs more credit. Yes, it may be pretty short- 35 feet max, but you can definitely find some high-quality routes. Plus, the bouldering... more >>

I checked it out today and it looks awesome. I'm definitely climbing here when that snow melts... if the snow melts.
