Comments: I got my first taste of clean aid on this route this weekend. Really fun moves with consistently good gear. To all the trad leaders, my hat goes off to you.

Location: CO : Alpine Rock : RMNP - Rock : Glacier Gorge : McHenry's Peak : NE Ridge or Arrowhead Arete By: Page Weil When: Nov 6, 2012 | view comment >> |
Comments: Did this route on 11/4/12. We did the approach from Solitude Lake, leaving the car ~4AM. Getting to the saddle with Arrowhead was not too difficult, though cold and windy. Once we were on the arete, early season snow on the rock slabs made for scary soloing. We roped up 3 pitches before the as the sun was setting. We did (3) 35m rappels to get us to walking terrain to get to Stoneman Pass. The descent from Stoneman was a long, snowy downclimb where we were nearly cliffed out numerous times... more >>

Location: CO : Mobile Apps: Completely Fre... By: Page Weil When: May 23, 2012 | view comment >> |
Comments: The app's functionality and interface are great; I think this will be a very useful tool at some point. My chief complaint with the Android app is that it cannot be stored on the SD card of my phone. Since this app takes up a lot of space, it is not practical to use unless I can move it off my phone; I have a ton of other apps that also require space on my phone's memory. If you fix this, I will pay whatever you charge for access to all my favorite areas!

Location: CO : Boulder : Flatirons : Central : Dum : Fumbledeedum (4th) By: Page Weil When: Jun 29, 2011 | view comment >> |
Comments: My friend and I did this yesterday and were nearly turned back; the first cave-like feature you see when you pass between the portions of the Third Stratum has collapsed. We decided, thankfully, to keep going and look for the rest of the route, only to find that the actual cave in the route description is the SECOND cave-like feature up the hill, and it is not caved in. After the cave, the rest of the route is mixed scrambling and hiking. The route description in the Flatirons Guide... more >>

Location: CA : Yosemite National Park : Tuolumne Meadows : Cathedral Peak : Southeast Buttress (5.6) By: Page Weil When: Sep 20, 2010 | view comment >> |
Comments: Beautiful and easy climbing. Lots of pitches to practice your trad placements on. My partner and I started slightly left of center at the toe of the buttress and ended up on an "interesting" third pitch. There is a lieback crack between two completely blank walls. My partner did it as a difficult offwidth. The topo for the route on Supertopo labels this area as "not recommended"; i'd call it 5.10 at least. At the chimney there was a minor bottleneck but at the belay station for... more >>

Location: CO : Boulder : Boulder Canyon : The Bihedral Area : The Riviera By: Page Weil When: Jun 4, 2010 | view comment >> |
Comments: Be especially careful when climbing in this area. My friend pulled a 600 lb chunk off just left of Bosch Blanket Bingo with almost no effort. If I had been distracted for a second by something else, I would be a pancake. As it was, I got away with a minor ankle injury and a bloodstream full of adrenaline.
