Comments: In case anyone's interested, although the Forest Service's Waldo Canyon Fire map shows only partial closure of Rampart Range Road from the Garden of the Gods, there are still roadblocks by Balanced Rock.

According to those maps, Ed Rock is not in the closure area, but hiking out there will take a while unless someone knows how to get access to the private gated community south of the cliff....

Comments: Thanks to the young men of the Colorado Springs North Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, there is now an established trail to the Castle from Wellington Lake.

It starts at the end of the lake's camping areas (next to the gated entrance to a Boy Scout Camp) and goes all the way up to the southern base of The Castle. You'll need to traverse north to get to the base of routes like Castle Corner, etc... (or you could just break from the trail when you feel like it)

Comments: My sons and I had a great time at Hurricane Ridge last Saturday. The directions were great (you pass 4 dirt jumps before you get to the dead tree where you break from the main trail and head up the ridge). Cairns marking the trail were excellent.
We played on the West Hurricane Wall the whole time, working our way down. Thanks for the trailwork and routes! If the hillside at the base of the wall wasn't fairly dangerous, it would be a great kid-friendly place!

Comments: I might as well chime in:
I know Ric Geiman (who silently got the FAs on most everything at the Valley) did not have the FA on Chick Power. Jeff and I asked him at a comp there after we completed it.

And it's called Chick Power (not Sheik Power or anything like that), because Jeff's closest attempts always came when he brought his girlfriends there.

When Jeff and I were working Chick Power as a project, there was no other method we WANTED to do other than the big throw. Send it however you w... more >>

Comments: It's serious if Nick got an account. Listen up.
But it is a slippery slope, Nick; text messaging is the next likely step you'll take!

Love ya - you're still my hero - thanks for posting about your impressive hardman ascents for the rest of us to break ourselves on.

Comments: My faith in the climbing community is restored - thanks for speaking up, Ben.
I openly admit that this might not be the place for everyone, but unless Andrew saw something sodomistic going on there, I don't think that description helps anyone.
Things like:
- The lines were way too short.
- I didn't like that you could see the interstate from the cliff.
- I got frustrated that I got smacked on so many V0s
are much better, accurate descriptions that will still allow others to visit the area for th... more >>

Comments: As of 8/23/2011, there's a beehive in a crack above and right of the big chickenhead. I was lucky to only have one bee sting me as I was hanging there. Watch out!

Comments: Great send, Culver. I have no idea if I've done that variation, but I wouldn't be surprised if all the stuff I've done on there has been done 30 years ago. Still fun, no?!
Psyched to see someone is checking this area out. Feel free to contact me for any other info or to get out!

Comments: I finally added it. Because it's definitely separate from The Inferno (the aid climb), it's now listed as Ryan's Inferno.
Jesse, it'd be cool to have your pictures moved over too.
Ryan's Inferno still needs some repeats!

Comments: Hey kyle h/climberman14er... There is so much good stuff around Colorado Springs - if you need a ride to see it, shoot me a line. I bet all you need is a little perspective.

Comments: Funny... That story sounds familiar to my own... When climberman14er put up the info about Rampart Park I had to see if it was true. After verifying that the largest climbable blocks were indeed "piles of graham crackers," I notified John McNamee (site admin) who said he'd try to contact climberman14er for more detailed beta and photos. I'm assuming he couldn't back it up so John took it off the site.
Credibility.... none.

Phil, you didn't by any chance stumble across climberman14er's 100 ft.... more >>
