Comments: RE: loose rock on this route - I did not find any significant amount today. A few loose ones, obviously not holds, about the size of a deck of playing cards. The rock in the first 30' or so looks unreliable, but I'm a fairly heavy guy and couldn't get anything to move on me, so game on. The anchors currently in place are solid. I had trouble rappelling the route and cleaning it simultaneously - the overhanging face puts you out from the rock, and the line wanders a bit. Thanks to Kor for pu... more >>

Comments: GREAT route! Be sure to enjoy the excellent views of Cotopaxi on the way up and down. Watch for condors during the climb, past the refugio. We saw one circling around the area for most of the climb, and then during the one short 5th class section, he swooped in to about 30' away from us. Ugly-looking birds, but a once-in-a-lifetime experience. There's a beautiful green lake between the Ilinizas, which you'll see after you pass the hut. Take a moment to pay your respects and consider your m... more >>

Comments: Agreed that this route is easy to place all kinds of pro, we even slinged a few horns on the way up. Bolts would have been ridiculous, thanks to whoever removed them. Great for a mellow climb, and a good first lead. I'd give it three stars if it weren't for the vegetation.

Comments: Lots of rests available on the first pitch. Definitely worth doing if you're in the mood for a mellow climb. The downclimbing at the base isn't difficult if you're on a 60m rope.

Comments: Fun route! Now my second-favorite at High Wire, behind 5th of July. Feels quite exposed at the crux, which for me was the "bear hug" section that Richard mentions above. A good variety of climbing - slabby moves, an offwidth crack, and juggy moves for the rest. Pretty straightforward, just watch out and don't wander onto Jackpot - at one point the bolts for Jackpot are within an arm's reach of Amigo's bolts.

The bolt clip with the big reach everyone is talking about (7th or 8th) can be cl... more >>

Comments: Just got back from The Monastery, we took a trip 6/9-6/11. MUCH THANKS to Adopt-A-Crag, who was out on Saturday cleaning up after all the janky high schoolers, and even gave us some beer! The campsites at the road are in much better shape now, thanks to their efforts. There are TONS of wildflowers blooming right now, I highly recommend getting out here in the next coupla weeks!

Comments: Lots of tiny crimps. Your toes will throb. Resist the urge to head right of the bolts.

Comments: Good route...I'd agree with a 10a rating. The crux for me was the inside corner 1/2 way up. A 60m rope just gets you to the ground a bit uphill from the start of the route. Bring plenty of draws, and make sure to enjoy the nice view of Longs and Meeker from the top!

Comments: A reminder to watch for loose rock, even with as much traffic as this area gets. This weekend on Menses Prow, a loose block was pulled off and broke a belayer's leg, requiring a stretcher and helicopter flight out of the canyon. Be careful!

Comments: I don't have much crack experience, so it felt like a 10a to me. I agree with Rick, that crack climbers will likely find it to be an easier grade. Climbed it yesterday, and we didn't encounter any birds or bats, or shit, along the route. Moves seemed to thin out a bit around bolts 6 and 7, with the hardest layback pull near the top. Good climb, 3 stars.

Comments: A decent route, but there are much better routes of similar grade nearby. Stay out of the crack to the right. 1 star.

Comments: Climbed this route yesterday, found it quite enjoyable. Found the crux to be near the 5th and 6th bolts. Well-protected, good holds, clean rock until the top. Watch for a semi-loose chalked rock to the right near the 10th bolt.
