Comments: Go Hamada,

We had heard of this ascent when we were researching it. This route was way scary.

Comments: History Tidbits:

On the FA: Klaus dropped the nailinig rack and they tied all thier ropes, slings, aiders and tat together to get it back. They immediatly went back up and carried on.

On our ascent: John Selove rode a human-sized block out of the first pitch. Woah! We called the bivi ledge atop pitch 6 "Satan's Sundeck".

Comments: I posted this route once before and erased it. A buddy (sounds like Jersey Dave) heckled me about it because it is not my route. Well, Klaus lives in AK and could give a shit about these things... Hell, he barely gave his routes names let alone topos (which he never drew). I feel it best to leave the topo out of this site in the style of Klaus.

Second ascent: Eric Draper and Brian Bird

Third Ascent: Nate Brown and John Selove

Fourth Ascent: Anyone???... Neither Klaus nor I will buy you beer, ... more >>

Comments: I should add: When Todd Goss put out his book, in a phone conversation we had, he refused to include this route because he called it a "death route". I guess if we had permitted it and drilled it in to submission, it would have worked into his paradigm, or is it paragon?

Comments: this route rules. Don't overlook the second pitch. one of the only 5.8 roofs in Zion! also, an alternate start to Mean High Tide. Clint Eastwood rules.

Comments: Maybe, for longevity sake, tapping skyhook lightly into the heinous holes will help them last longer. Also, even though many will disagree, I feel that adding a bolt next to a shitty hole is doing most future parties, and perhaps yourself, a favor.

Comments: I may have done the "last ascent" of this route. I soloed the route about 2 months before the tower cleaved in half. RIP the Pillar. I do believe this is my only "last ascent". Does this mean that there is now an unclimbed tower left over?

Comments: Hey, Cedar-town residents, feel free to replace any of those bolts!!! It should not be too hard to pull the old ones--$10 cro-bar. Calder Stratford and I put up gutterball. It was way fun! Good times. Thanks for posting this stuff up.

Comments: This route is top 5 in Zion for me. I've been up it about 6+ times. It always scares me a little. The runouts are real, the choss is there, and you get some vertical bushwhacking to boot! Go get some.

Comments: Brian,

Thanks for this photo! It is making my day. Klaus used to call the Court "The Court of the Patriots" hahaha. We tried Red Dawn a bunch of years ago, got half way up the sucker before fear and stomach flue shut us down. The approach pitches were wild! Klaus' route looks very amazingly thin. This wall has stuffed me twice now arghhhh.

Comments: Lattitudes: most dangerous, most delicate and prone to destruction. Ladders really suck, bring a drill.

Tale of the Scorpion: best route, most likely to stand the test of erosion/time, lots of safe, fun aid climbing, least amount of bad sugar.

Rodeo Queen: the business. hardest route. Good Friday pitch could send you for a huge ride, like a 300 footer. Direct start to Rubicon was hard and dangerous, maybe best to avoid this. Most bad sugar.

Lord Helmet: My bet, very hard.

Wet Stone: Obviousl... more >>
