Location: CA : SF Bay Area : Castle Rock State Park : Mount Doom By: Morgan Brown When: Nov 8, 2002 | view comment >> | Comments: Etymology: Mount Doom was named by Chris Hawn. Chris told me in an e-mail that, "I was big on the Lord of the Rings trilogy 20 years ago, and when I/we came across the obelisk from the regular trail, it just seemed plain it was Mount Doom. Plus, as we bushwhacked up to it, we thought we were "doomed" many times! The name seemed appropriate."

Location: CO : Golden : Clear Creek Canyon : High Wire Crag : Stone Cold Moderate (5.7) By: Morgan Brown When: Oct 10, 2001 | view comment >> | Comments: My first outdoor sport climb. The description is about right--if you can get off the ground, the climb is finished. As such, this is probably a good first lead route. Cool dihedral, very big, very obvious holds, and not totally vertical.

Location: CO : Golden : Clear Creek Canyon : High Wire Crag : 5th of July (5.9+) By: Morgan Brown When: Oct 10, 2001 | view comment >> | Comments: My second outdoor sport climb, the first being "Stone Cold Moderate". It's a pretty good route. Not a sustained 5.9 climb, but all these routes seem to have that problem. I remember a straightforward jug to get off the ground, followed by 30 feet of steadily narrowing holds, and then the awesome finger-pocket crux! BTW, is this finger pocket real, or an old bolt hole? After the crux, it's 30 easy feet to the anchors.
