Comments: I wanted to take a moment to chime in here and express some optimism for the future in regards to the Spires. Although slow I think that we will start to see positive change at the Spires in the coming years. In regards to the approaches to the Sunshine Wall and Cynical Pinnacle I know that the Open Space Trails Crew has been out looking at them in the past month and have been documenting the locations and I'm sure the condition of the trails. The soils at the Spires pose a daunting challenge... more >>

Comments: Our Natural Resources crew has been out working on a forest thinning project. No bulldozers, a skidder perhaps.

Comments: Buff's post is rather timely as we just removed 29 hangers from a rock off of Evergreen Mountain East Trail. Unfortunately only 6 of the bolts were removable Rawl bolts. The rest are still in the rock, though not visible from the trail. I have a handful of projects on my plate coming into the slower fall and winter season; one of those being an update of the Jefferson County Climbing Management Guidelines. I plan to add Alderfer to the packet so that information pertaining to this ... more >>

Comments: Not as serious as it sounds. There weren't any life threatening injuries apparent at the scene. I really can't go much further than that in regards to the injured climber's condition. Apparently the climber hit a ledge during a leader fall.

Comments: I agree, especially in this case where the "Getting There" section advises folks to access via a road that is currently posted No Trespassing.

Comments: All the bolted routes face ESE. Make sure you get on the 4th route to the left. It's a hoot and goes at about 5.9 with a funky mantle.

Comments: The trail and crag are on Jefferson County Open Space land, specifically Clear Creek Canyon Park. The Trails Department is aware of the issue. I'm hopeful that we'll see a better access become available soon.

Comments: Climbed it on July 1 and didn't see the cam...though given there are many ways one can do the ridge we may have simply chosen a different path than Skeeter.

Comments: I have similar questions. While the house to the north over the ridge is for sale and vacant I'm curious who owns the slabs. The log cabin below the southern end of the slab seems like the likely owner. It is possible to approach from the vacant property and not pass any NO TRESPASSING signage, but pleading ignorance based on this would be pretty lame. Pretty neat looking stuff though, anyone else have some thoughts? Mark, er...Buff?

Comments: No doubt, I was looking for your boulder last Monday and stumbled onto fresh large cat tracks in the mud up towards the intersection of the service road and Mesa Loop. An attempt at levity may have been lost in my previous post.

Comments: Aw, c'mon Lee. These little guys are super friendly. I've had 5 encounters in 4 years, one even followed me down a trail in the middle of the night. I'm pretty sure he just wanted to say hi.

Comments: Checked it out today, very cool spot and the problems are fun too. We stumbled upon a Black Bear rooting around in the drainage below the boulder as we approached. Thanks again Lee!

Comments: Cool new area Lee. The next time I'm at Deer Creek I'll be sure to check it out. Hopefully folks will respect the chalkless ethic that you've put forth here.

Comments: My wife was climbing this route today and when she went to clip the second bolt she found the hanger to be a spinner. She then checked the stud and said that it had a very light wiggle.

Comments: Come on folks, regular chalk isn't supposed to be used at RRCOS. While certainly most folks seem to be abiding by this ethic there is still white chalk residue on the slabs.

Comments: Chains have been added to the right most anchors, plans are to replace the sketchy webbing/cordelette on the other two anchors in the coming weeks. Hope this doesn't offend anyone.
