Comments: So I have been tossing around the idea for a few years of doing a comprehensive Rock & Ice climbing guidebook for VA. VA doesn't have a great guidebook for all the stuff that exists there. The Watson guide is subpar and the Horst book while nice skipped a lot of areas. I was thinking of focusing only on roped climbing-including all of the excellent bouldering would take a lifetime to finish. Just wanted to probe the interest of fellow MP'ers that climb in VA-is this something you would be in... more >>

Comments: The approach here is a bit deceiving. From the start of the jeep trail you cross the stream 3 times. You will hike through some thick rhodo areas in between the stream crossings. After the 3rd stream crossing you will come to a spot in the trail where it has been blocked off and forces you uphill. Follow it uphill for a few minutes and then you will begin to see the rocks (lower hidden) ahead of you. It is still well hidden until you get pretty close to it. In the spring and summer you may... more >>

Comments: I hiked up there for the first time yesterday-awesome crag with a lot of potential for additional routes, both Trad/sport/mixed. A note about the base trail-once you make the big turn at the North facing overlook just continue up the ridge. Go about 4-500 yards and keep an eye out on the right for the view to clear--up until this point it has just been trees and hilly terrain. When the right side of the hill begins to drop away, then you have reached the first climbable rock. You will see th... more >>

Comments: For a better description of Maryland Climbing check out Indy's Climb Maryland book. Here is the link for amazon.com.
amazon.com/Climb-Maryland-Mark...
It is more thorough than any other guide. Maryland, when you actually go looking has a lot of climbable rock, you just need to get out there and find it.
