This is the first of a series of self portraits that I made one evening at Point Mugu. I had not brought along a tripod, so the only way to capture the fantastic colors was to prop my camera on a bundled-up sweater, on the ground.

The cool pickup is not mine.

November is a special month at Point Mugu, as nearly every sunset is spectacular. This one was photographed sitting atop Mugu Rock. Both Anacapa and Santa Cruz Islands are visible.

Due to its unique position and orientation, I have shot more amazing sunset shots here than at any other spot on the Central Coast. This is likely the worst anchor I've ever seen. The yellow "webbing" in the photo is actually a strap from the climber's SUV roof-rack. It's hard to see in this photo, but 2 rubber-ized hooks on the two ends of the strap are hooked through the left-hand carabiner.

The anchor is completely non-redundant and relies on the stitching that attaches the rubber-ized hooks to the ends of the strap. And that quick-draw?

At least they padded the edge to protect the strap from abrasion.
