Comments: Fun Fun Fun!! Usually lead 5.9-5.10b and this is a fantastic route to lead. Definitely not 5.11, maybe a move or 2 at the top, but it protects fabulously. Just sustained. I took (5) #3s & used (3) after bumping them. #.75 & .5 were my crucial gear pieces and save a .4 or .3 for the very top once you hump over the bugle if that kind of thing scares you. You definitely do not need a #4 to protect this climb.

Comments: We climbed this yesterday and didn't notice anything being loose or scary. The first 5-8 feet have a couple moves that aren't totally solid but I wouldn't have even noticed if not for the above comments. Maybe those folks weren't used to sandstone?? Fantastic route, very sandy at least yesterday, but I would stick with the 5.11a rating. Could be considered 10c somewhere else but given that Gunsmoke next door is an 11a, I wouldn't rate this one any easier. In fact, I thought the initial finger cr... more >>

Comments: I have done this route twice this winter and have some comments.

P1: We have done this by starting both to the left and to the right. The right side adds about 8 ft of squeeze chimneying and it is tight. I am a 5'8" female and with a fleece on I move through pretty snug. It is impossible to tunnel through w/ a day pack on so consider dangling it from your PAS or having the leader lower a section of rope through the holes at the belay and pull it up. All that being said- this is my favorite part... more >>

Comments: Gorgeous splitter crack. Very thin and I thought the second pitch definitely felt harder than 10a as the Handren guide suggests but maybe I'm just a pansy. As JW says, you do need a couple blacks for the second pitch and all the small gear you have so don't waste it all for a mid-way belay. I'd recommend bringing nuts. I did not think the approach was a bad as suggested. Just your typical RR uphill, ridge hike. A little brushy. We roped up when it turned to 5th class.

Comments: There appears to be a variation or a whole different climb directly to the right of the start of pitch 1 (right at the gully). We started this route by mistake and were wondering if any trollers know if this is a totally different route or just a variation
