Comments: St. Johns Ledges has some classic slab routes, the obvious splitter seam on the left side of the big slab is well protected and goes at 5.5 (it's a guess, we did it 35+ years ago)

Comments: FA: Wenzel, Modugno in the late 70's. Bring a KB and perhaps a tied off a screw... it's a pretty chossy route overall, but not unlike what you'd find in scotland.

Comments: Again, I doubt it. We cleaned a ton of stuff 25 - 30 years ago... much of it has since re-grunged back over since. Even before we got there, folks like Mac Johnson had already ticked off most of the stuff

Comments: Did this route about 25 years ago (free), one of the best ever. Protects just fine with a set of old school hexes and wires.

Comments: I recall thinking "eff the squeeze", and just pulled out into a layaway and fired off the ten feet or so. Also, no need to crawl the ledge as there are thin edges about three to four feet down that turn it into an easy hand traverse.

I think we were the last party to climb the flake before the bolt ladder / pendulum, I recall cracking the flake pretty badly as I reefed on the top... thought I was going to crush my belayer before casting both of us to the valley floor. We did it in late October,... more >>

Comments: I suspect Felix Modugno sent that boulder problem some 30 years ago, That crag has been covered like a cheap suit over the ages by hundreds of climbers.

Comments: There are several great lines on this thing, we at least three on the roadside, I recall one very scary one the shoots straight up the middle of the clean face in the center (to the left of the obvious notch?) Another on the west end (again roadside) that is harder than it looks due to steepness and friable rock.

Be prepared to run it out a bit.

Comments: I took a big whipper off of the finishing moves when a wire pulled, I had pulled the crux, but messed up the easy exit mantle thingy (circa 1984ish).

Didn't help that it was my belayers first time holding the rope for a lead, much less a fall from a larger than average guy.

Comments: Pretty sure we did the first ascent, had to clean a ton of ferns / moss out of that thing. Also did the line to the right, as well as the thin buttress to the left. The line on the left required pulling a tiny roof on holds that seemed ready to snap... I wonder if they are still there.

The thing should be rated 5.7, it's far easier than the fingercrack on the first pillar at the beginning pf the crag (formerly known as hydroponics)
