I loved the Needles of the <br />Southern Sierra. The route is Don Juan Wall 11b, this shot was taken by a hard woman just before my manly fall.

Comments: Someone fixed the bolt last mentioned cause I didn't see that. I thought the start was the crux and quite runout for a nine leader. Maybe I just didn't find the right holds, as usual. After that, nothing but big holds, just hard to see at first cause of the shade.

Comments: Good climb but a bit easier for me so I didn't feel it was 5.10c. It was just a hard pull on the right then a big jug. Great fun.

Comments: Nice area and well worth a visit. The routes were fun and graded close enough to true for me. Very user friendly. The rock reminded me of a couple cobblestone areas in Spain.

Comments: I would recommend a 70m rope or doubles to ensure a safe return to the ground from the longest/2nd pitch.

Comments: The first three pitches are @ 90'; pitch 4 is easy 5th and a chimney that widens, belay on ledge on the right w/bolt on right wall; pitch 5 is easy 5th on wider chimney/gulley to the last 5th class portion, go to end of 60m rope and belay off gear. 4th to top and walk north to mtneers route/gulley. Look for cairns marking the rap route; double ropes.

Comments: I haven't done this in a couple of years and so I went back to see what the problem with the bolts was. Maybe someone fixed a suspect bolt, they seemed the same to me. None of the anchors was loose, they were in the condition I left them in. If you have some specific worry, send me an email.

Comments: A key block fell off that helped you set up for the undercling and throw for the jug on the cameltoe. This is now harder, hint: use kneebars to reach the bolt on the right of the toe. It felt more like 11c to me.

Comments: The pullout for the Fin (Mars Attacks) is on Forest Service Road 152. Drive up Dry Creek Road for a couple miles until you see a small sign for 152 on the right. You can purchase a red rocks day pass here.

Drive 1.6 miles on a rough dirt road to a small pullout on the right and a faint trail behind it. Wander up to the left shoulder of the fin to the routes.

Comments: Some of the routes have been rebolted making them safer and more fun. Still, I'd recommend a light rack for some routes. I'd forgotten how nice the area was. Great to be back and see old friends.

Comments: I finally got on it last weekend; wonderful and the crux was fairly easy 11. I had been put off by the talk of runouts and there were a few but on easy rock. The first and third pitches were great, although the first got your slab work going fast; the second and crux pitch was also good and airy.

Comments: I did Soul Kitchen, and it's not in the photo. It is to the right, goes up slab to dihedral. Jimmy S. told me the dihedral (at the finish) had been done as a TR and I just added the beginning pitch. There were no bolts on the route I did.

Comments: I got on it after the FA and took one of the worst whippers I ever felt. Couldn't figure out how to get to the last bolt, couldn't reverse the moves and tried again, then flew. Ouch.
