Comments: NO ice on the Upper or Lower BTC falls. First time that I know of that no ice has been reported on the Upper flow.

Comments: Jim Disney calls this section with the overhang 'A1 Roof'. Jim gave a bit of history about this rock a few years ago. Across the river from this area and just a bit to the west is crag known as 'The Erection'. As far as the spider goes Al, it wasn't far from the size of an orange....plus it had orange markings on it. Nasty damn thing. Definitely made the climb a grade or two harder.

Comments: I'm looking forward to watching the D-backs shiver on Sundays game. It's shaping up to be a cool, rainy day :) Go Rockies! Rocktober is definitely fitting this year, in more ways than one. Take a day off mid-week, go to Lumpy and enjoy.

Comments: My partner Russ and I climbed this fine route on 9-27-07 We started in the Right Chimney, did the lower traverse below Arch Crack, then tackled the entire 5.6 crack. Really fun climb with lots of good gear. #4 Camalot came in handy more than once. If you're a beginning trad leader, do this climb; compares to Batman Pinnacle as far as difficulty goes.

Comments: This is a fun, short crack climb with some slab moves towards the top. If you wish, traverse left for several feet when the crack ends. Then climb straight up the thin slab towards the anchors.

Comments: I am told by John and his wife Jeri...(she is actually the landowner) this cabin has been in her family for 6 generations. Her grandfather was one of the first doctors in Loveland. Last name was Wright. Their cabin is called 'Roughin it Wright.' John and Jeri's last name is Ruff. Anyway....they have informed me that they would like to see the bolts painted to better match the rock and to have at least the one bolt nearest the smiley face crack removed. The smiley face is located towards th... more >>

Location: CO : Estes Park Valley : Big Thompson Canyon : Linger Longer Rock : Compressor Route (5.9) By: kyle kingrey When: Sep 11, 2007 | view comment >> |
Comments: Route is a good one. Whoever bolted it did a nice job. However, it could have gone with about 4 or 5 less bolts. (Two bolts are near a very nice crack.) I had a chance to meet with the landowners, they are indeed some very nice people. Thankfully they are not the type of folk to have a knee jerk reaction about the many bolts now placed on their rock. They could have easily put up "no trespassing" signs. More time needs to be spent finding out about access issues before bolting and climbin... more >>

Comments: This is probably the best route in BTC. After the last bolt you can either stay to the right or break slightly left for a bit more excitement. Good gear when the bolts disappear. This climb is easliy done as one pitch.

Comments: The name of the route to the left of F7 has escaped me. I have it written down somewhere, and I am trying to figure out who even told me the name?? As for the grade of 5.9, I personally don't think so. The start is a bit runout, some of the better holds are a bit loose and the sustained nature and length of this climb sure make it feel like 5.10 It is a great route that takes power and elegance.

Comments: Climbed Dags on 4-29-07 Although I have climbed this route numerous times over the years, I still find this climb as an excellent outing. We rappelled the route (starting the rap to climbers left) this time making for a much quicker descent. There many variations to the noted routes as well as tons of potential for other, harder routes. An area that comes to mind that would rate 5.10 to 5.11 is the perfect slab 50' or so to the left of the 3rd belay. As of now there is no pro but a few bolt... more >>

Comments: Nice job to send the overhang. Regardless of all of the bs going on this was a great accomplishment. A hard, lengthy, overhanging mixed route in the BTC! This climb, from the discovery of it, the vision of the line, to the FA of the overhang, had many folks involved in a variety of ways. How long has it been since a BTC route has seen so much activity (and controversy?) We can only hope this climb comes in more often in the years to come. There are still a few hard lines to be had! Comments: This climb was actually a lot of fun the other day-We did a cool variation to the left of the main flow which was about 3 feet wide and aprox 70' high of WI2. I then climbed the main flow which had some interesting moves on very thin ice-good practice here.

Comments: During the week of 1-22-07 Al Simons called me up and told me of a possible ice climb high above BTC. Later that day I went up with my binoculars and confirmed Al's suspicion. Indeed, very high above the Shark's Fin gully was a beautiful climb broken into two sections. Al and I made plans to climb it the next day. We started off by climbing 'Ice Age' a fun climb of about 50 feet of WI2+ or so. Then after some bushwhacking and a very warm, steep approach we arrived at what is now called 'Sharky... more >>
