Comments: It is uncommon in the Southeast for routes of this grade (5.7/5.7+) to be this good. It is somewhat unique in this aspect.

This route has multiple large, bomber, plate-like features that can be slung with 48-inch slings. This negates the need for the 5th bolt that was added to the route. The other bolts, except perhaps the third one, can safely be skipped if you use a modest rack. Safely skipping the third bolt requires more skill with placing gear than should be expected from a 5.8 leader in m... more >>

Comments: Bring a couple of 48-inch slings as part of your standard Yellow Bluff rack for protecting the numerous horns and plate features. Before you leave home, practice tying clove hitches with one hand (like on a door knob or something) so it's second nature when trying to sling the features on lead. It's something that every climber should know anyway.

A bolt isn't needed where you can sling one (sometimes more) of these bomber horns and plate-like features.

Comments: Ha ha! They're coming Rob! Smith got some and a professional photographer got some great ones from the ground with a large format camwra. You'll also find the bolted belay/rappel stations and a couple of pitons we left. Remember, they were installed in 1997, in soft-ish rock so...

I also want to add that Bryan Bird tirelessly worked on the route with me too. Sprained his hand kinda bad when I took a long (clean) fall in the second pitch where the crack seams out and you pendulum/tension travers... more >>

Comments: Thank you Ben. That's awesome you got a picture of the Wood Spirit in its original, unraped condition. Why people/idiots keep intentionally damaging the namesake of the route is beyond me.

Comments: "un-friggin-believable, this fool"!!! No Kidding! Huge thanks for intervening Mike. There is no telling how far he would have gone if you hadn't said something. As you probably know, that tree creature is The Wood Spirit, which Jeff Achey and I named the route after; the tree is the actual namesake of the route! It's only been there who knows how many hundred years, preserved under the overhang. Some time ago, a similar jack-ass, i guess also trying to "improve" things, cut off one of ... more >>

Comments: There is no North or South section at The T-Wall. The cliff is south-facing and runs almost perfectly West to East (left to right) as you are facing the Wall. It would reduce confusion if this site were organized according to the names of the different areas at the crag--Cibola, Paradise Lost, Paradise, The Wastland, Orange Blossom, Lost Blossom, ect. Not only is North/South geographically incorrect, it also ignores names of the different walls at the cliff. "West" and "East" would be an improve... more >>

Comments: Chummer is right; possibly the most exposed one can get on SE Sandstone. Its directly up the slope from Prerequisit for Excellence.
