Comments: Wow! just did this route yesterday, without knowing anything about it. So, we started to the east below the notch between the tower and Middle Mesa.
P1 We climbed a 40' pitch of 5.8 in a stem box using a pretty nice crack to protect friable surrounding rock. This pitch got us into the notch. After reading this post I know you can just hike around the west side of the tower and scramble into the notch to start. Our first pitch was pretty nice though.
P2 We climbed the steep crack as described a... more >>

Comments: Hey Greg the original route follows a crack up to the piton and continues up a crack left of the bolted line. The bolted line is much newer and seems easier. The bolts on the new line are poorly placed. Fun line though.

Comments: Ravens are nesting near the top of this route. Best to avoid for a couple of months.

Comments: Hi Derek, the route has become more difficult over time as some holds broke since the original ascent. I put it as 10d in the new guide.

Comments: Leo Henson did the first ascent in the 80's. The route is a little different down low however the top section (crux) is relatively the same. It really gets hard after the horizontal. Sterling Murray led it when he was 15 so Leo down rated it to 12d. Could be harder now though.

Comments: Just added a new route to the left of The Dam Crack. "Haywire" 5.10b. Climb face/arete to the left of the crack past 3 bolts merging with a chimney on the arete. The step across to the chimney is well protected and the climbing above involves steep hands and fingers. The route eventually merges with the Dam Crack and makes for a spectacular line. Stay in the left crack as long as possible to get the best the wall has to offer. KK

Comments: I just put in two new glue-ins so the TR situation is manageable with two shoulder length slings or a cordelette. KK

Location: AZ : Central Arizona : **Prescott Areas : Granite Dells : High Rappel Dell : ... : Pinnacle (5.11a)
By: Kevin Keith When: Aug 4, 2015

Comments: Pinnacle has two old rusty bolts at the midpoint traverse and really should not be considered adequate. Hand sized gear is available between these two fixed pieces. The route should be done in one very long awkward pitch.

Comments: All of the bolts on this route were replaced with 3"long 1/2" stainless steel bolts by the Prescott Climber's Coalition thanks to a grant by the ASCA. The "sharp" hangers are gone.

Comments: Pucker Factor is on the arete, Huckleberry Thin is right of groove and goes straight up. Huckleberry Thinner traverses out right and is missing a bolt hanger.

Comments: This route was originally rated 5.7+ which really is splitting hairs. I think this is consistent for the area. This route really needs an anchor. Be prepared to place gear or use a big sling or the rope itself to sling the top. I will work on getting some glue-ins in there soon.

Comments: This route has changed a lot from it's original state. All the bolts were replaced in the last two years. The bolts are 1/2" stainless 3" long. Thanks to Greg Barnes and the ASCA for the bolts and hangers. KK

Comments: Miguel,

This route is called Last Man Standing. Bill Cramer and I work this route out years ago and returned about 10 years ago cleaning and adding the anchor about the same time we put up West Nile. If you could change the name I would appreciate it. There is a questionable block still on the route so be careful.

Comments: The route above the bolt is called "After Hours" 9+ if you finish out left and about 5.9 if you trend up and right to the bolt anchor. Bill Cramer and I put this up several years ago. Bring some small cams.

Location: AZ : Central Arizona : **Prescott Areas : Granite Dells : High Rappel Dell : ... : Presidente (5.10a)
By: Kevin Keith When: Sep 30, 2013

Comments: Presidente Direct is a direct start from the ground to the upper dihedral. Climb up the very shallow right facing corner to ledge and continue past two new bolts (10) and continue past bolt on missing link. Continue face climbing with good gear upward into El Presidente's dihedral. This variation climbed in 1990 with very bad gear. Retro-bolted in 2012.
