Comments: The temps that are currently displayed on this page appear unrealistically low. The forecast I use, the NWS point forecast, shows highs 10 to 20 degrees warmer each day. Use the following link for the point forecast: NWS point forecast for New Jack City

Comments: Ben, that's false. The Adventure Pass program is not "voluntary." It's law. In its current form it was authorized by Congress (and signed by G.W. Bush) under the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act. Under the Act, failure to display an Adventure Pass is subject to a $100 fine. Fortunately, here in SoCal, the Forest Service rarely pursues the fine, and instead issues Notices of Noncompliance ("NONs"), which are basically "fix-it tickets," allowing you to buy the pass after the fact. ... more >>

Comments: Straightforward climbing. Crux is fighting off the pump at the top. Totally onsightable, if you have the fitness. There's a good rest before the steep section. Milk the hell out of it.

Comments: Morbid trivia: The concrete slab in front of Boy Scout Wall has the distinction of being the site of the first homicide in 2007 in San Bernardino County. The shooting occurred at 15 minutes after midnight on January 1.

Comments: Although KAOS is rated 5.11b in the guidebook, I agree with Chris Miller's comment to the Labyrinth listing that KAOS is harder than Labyrinth, which is my benchmark for 5.11c. On the other hand, KAOS is easier than Furry Pump, my benchmark for 5.12a. Therefore, I rate KAOS 5.11d.

Location: CA : High Desert : New Jack City : Box Canyon East : Twin Towers : Funny Like A Funeral (5.12a/b) By: jt512 When: Mar 26, 2007 | view comment >> |
Comments: A great route that deserves more attention than it gets. Mellow start leads to crux: small handholds with imaginary footholds. Fun gym-like moves lead to 2nd crux involving a flat sloped hold. Climb progressively easier, but no less fun, moves to anchor. Stemming to wall across chimney is off-route (reduces difficulty to 5.11).

Comments: jbak, I had trouble with javalina last time I climbed it, despite having onsighted it several years ago. I also wondered if something had broken off -- around the 2nd bolt, if memory serves.
