Location: CA : San Bernardino Mountains : Holcomb Valley Pinnacles By: Jon Leicht When: May 24, 2009 | view comment >> |
Comments: It looks like they are now requiring Adventure Passes to park / camp at the pinnacles now (and most places in this area as a matter of fact). You can get them at a lot of places locally and at gear shops like A16, but be sure to get one...I saw 11 tickets this morning at Parking Lot Rock alone. May want to update the area description to reflect this...

Comments: that does make that small crossing a little scarier :)

Comments: I have seen the "bail out" referred to as "Unknown Monger" 5.9 in a few reference guides.
Did this climb on Saturday, fun and very awk first half.

Location: CA : San Bernardino Mountains : Holcomb Valley Pinnacles : Central Pinnacles : Motherlode Rock : ... : Wildrose (5.6) By: Jon Leicht When: Jun 14, 2008 | view comment >> |
Comments: We did a variation of this route by starting on the face 7 feet right of the climb, gaining ground until we were able to transfer into the last 15 feet of Wild Rose. Starting about 10 feet left of fire in the hole. Does it have a name? It was a fun little problem.

Comments: The direct layback start was much more fun, and not more than a half grade harder.

Comments: I did not think this was as hard as 10a. maybe climbing at Santee is paying off and the little edges don't seem so little. I would give it an "R" though. You BETTER make that clip on the second bolt. It is a little off right. I don't think you would hit ground, but darn close!

Location: CA : Riverside County : Big Rock : Main Slab : Frontal Lobotomy (5.10a) By: Jon Leicht When: May 12, 2008 | view comment >> |
Comments: Liked this short climb a lot. It was a one move wonder, a 5.6 slab with a 10a boulder problem in the middle. although once you find the little nub at the crux to cancel the highstep, it does feel a lot easier.

Comments: Best route in the grade area on the rock!

Comments: Great warm up route on the rock. a little runout in places, but par for the course at this crag. Liked it much better that some of the central routes, less people around you and WAY less slippery

Location: CA : San Diego County : Mount Woodson : Tower Two Area : Tricky Slab (5.10a/b V0) By: Jon Leicht When: Apr 7, 2008 | view comment >> |
Comments: I think that 5.9+ or 5.10 is very liberal for this face. If you start right we felt it went at 5.8/5.8+. If you start left, maybe pushes to a 9. Either way this has the best down climb on the hill... 2 feet :)

Comments: Great little climb. a little high if you are not confident, but the climb eases off SIGNIFICANTLY at the top. Leave the rope at home and downclimb off to the left hand side.

Comments: The reports we read said it got pretty close to Fawnskin. Does anyone know if Holcomb is untouched?

Location: CA : Joshua Tree National Park : Belle Campground : Short Cake Rocks : Rock 1 : Short Flake (5.6) By: Jon Leicht When: Apr 23, 2007 | view comment >> |
Comments: ouch, i would not give it a bomb - easy beginner crack lead with some nice characteristics, by no means a classic, but we thought it a "fun" route
Did not need a #4 plenty of places for smaller cams, .75 - 2, even good spots for hexes etc

Location: CA : Joshua Tree National Park : Belle Campground : Castle Rock-South Side : True Grit (5.9) By: Jon Leicht When: Apr 23, 2007 | view comment >> |
Comments: This one felt easier than 5.9. Outside of the first bouldery move (could be the 5.9) the rest was cake and almost not worth pulling out the rope. better climbs for the grade nearby
