Comments: Length of the vertical has a lot to do with the grades as well. A soda straw is vertical if standing straight up, yet you could walk over it. Would you give it a 3? or actually a grade of 5, as it is completely uniform and would have zero rests if it were pure ice? And that is why ice is so interesting as a medium!

Comments: If I remember correctly to my undergrad days, the Baraboo Quartzite is only 1.5 billion years old. The rocks located @ the Skillet creek are the same age as the rocks on the east bluff that we climb every day of the year. These rocks are super old, but not the oldest on the earth.

Comments: I believe that there were bolts added since this route was first posted on MP. I do not think that it would feel run out to the 5.8 leader. We also raped the route as there were not parties below us. 3 double rope raps to the ground.

Comments: Or to lead, bring a set of wires, and cams to a #1 camalot. Save the .75 for the top, as you don't really need it before then. Make sure to get your hand sequence right down low and a bomber nut, otherwise into the tree for you! Up high near the topout two ways to finish, the offwith crack direct, or by using "the secret hold" (not going to tell you where if you don't already know) which makes the finish a bit easier. One of my favorite leads at the Lake!

Comments: A great lead, especially if you finish by climbing up and over the viewing platform. It "protects" with a purple C3 between the doubled up 2X10 beam.
