Comments: One of the best sport routes of this grade in the Garden. Definitely do the direct start, although I would call it 5.9 instead of 5.10.

Comments: Short but fun route. As per the earlier comments, if New Era is a 5.7, then this is definitely a 5.6.

Comments: This would be a great route if it weren't for the crumbly rock on the crux. I pulled off a softball sized piece from one of the crux holds. Not sure if it is 5.9 anymore. Cool view from the top, but something of a chosspile.

Comments: Bob and Carrie Robertson bolted the extension to this route. The crux on the new section goes at 5.9+ according to Bob, and that seems about right. The length was measured out specifically to get the max out of a 60m rope. Fun!

Comments: Agreed. Once you know where the massive jug is, the crux drops to a 5.9.

Comments: I agree with Rich- If you do this route the way it was intended, staying to the right on the final bulge, I would call this solid 5.9. Very nice route with a little bit of everything.

Comments: I soloed this route in 2004 using the direct finish. Conditions were perfect, although the "direct" section was verglassed almost all the way up to the summit ice mushrooms. I headed up from the hut at 4:30am and the ledges were dry. When I came back through at around 1pm, I had to go through a waterfall. Not 5 minutes after I got off the ledges, one of the seracs 300 ft above the "waterfall" section calved off, showering that section of the ledges with rather large chunks of ice. No question, s... more >>

Comments: Soloed this route in September of '09. The last two pitches were great- fun and interesting moves. The holds are right there when you need them, very straightforward 5.7.

Location: CO : Colorado Springs : North Cheyenne Canyon : South Buttress (?) : Water Line (?) (5.8 PG13) By: Jon Grams When: Jan 22, 2011 | view comment >> |
Comments: Did this in May of 2010. First pitch is nice and straightforward, but the second, as Bosier Parsons mentioned, is very crumbly and in my opinion, somewhat contrived (very easy ground just to your right for most of the length of this pitch). Still, finishing the second is the most logical way to do the route. Rather unique for the area and worthwhile doing at least once.
