Comments: Tony Bubb led me up this fun little Flatiron climb on 4/23 under beautiful early morning blue skies. From the belay on top of the first pitch, the photo ops are great for both the belayer and the leader on the ridge. The moves between the main block and the summit block were fun, but the leader should take care to give the second some slack. We found a good sling and belay ring in the descent gully that got us back to the base quickly.

Comments: Tony Bubb lead us up a moderate line, 5.5-5.6, on the North Ridge on 7/21/02. We enjoyed a spectacular early morning cloud display on the pass at the base of the North Ridge. Our line started in the shade on cold, but solid rock. While on the first pitch, clouds completely filled the valleys on both sides of the Divide and circled around the summit, which made the situation feel very alpine. The next two pitches were sunny. Each pitch had a mixture of nice features (short finger cracks, good fla... more >>

Comments: I did a line on the Wham Ridge sometime in the mid 1980's over a July 4th weekend. It was very "Flatiron"-like: lower angle down low, steeper higher. I recall the roped climbing to be easy, but I do remember a big slab of old ice cutting loose and crashing into many pieces just a few hundred feet right of our line. The descent off the backside was steep 4th class, but uneventful. We also did a nice line, slightly harder, on the east side of Arrow Peak right next door. This is a beautiful valley ... more >>

Comments: Peter Spindloe led me up this route on 8/18/02, 20+ years after I first climbed it. It remains one of my all time favorites. The bivy sites are among the best anywhere. A Dutch couple from Boulder joined us for much of route and made for enjoyable companionship. The pitch above the Barb Flake is just super at its grade. The summit is truly one of the most interesting I have been on in Colorado. Its very unsettling to look straight down the face from the backside of the top block! As described in... more >>

Location: CO : Boulder : Boulder Canyon : Happy Hour Crag

Comments: I really love Happy Hour as a great place for after work climbing. I'm getting a little concerned, however, about the profusion of trails beneath the crag. Perhaps the Access Fund could continue its fine work in the area by establishing an "official" trail to the crag. In the meantime, I might suggest that folks stick to the slab approach across from the parking area that climbs directly up to the crag. This will minimize erosion on the hillside.
