Comments: ""Don't fall before reaching the first bolt!""

Don't fall anywhere on this one, me thinks. haha

But easy moves all the way.

Comments: "way to grainy to be considered a classic IMO"

I thought that the first time up it, too. But, after four laps on it I'm calling it pretty classic. :) Automatic toprope for Blind Ambition, too!

Comments: "I was told the "true" 5.5 climb goes into the corner and traverses under the roof."

That =was= the 5.7R, imo.

I agree, not a climb for the inexperienced leader.

Comments: Correct, that is not the crux. The crux is beautiful, though! Just a few feet higher to get started in it.

Comments: I started climbing the domes around 1979, I'm old school and have always been about the style and ethics. I was around and listening to everything about Powerfinger when it first went up. Looking at it now I'm wondering if the FAists just didn't have the right popularity at the time? So much of this stuff is a popularity contest. I mean if Tobin had put it up and hung on a hook to drill the crux bolt would it have been erased and then claimed by someone else? I guess the rock scars added to it, ... more >>

Comments: Yeah, I thought that was the technical crux, the hardest move on the route... but not the mental crux. ;)

Comments: Thought it was classic and super steep for the grade. Soft rating, though... maybe a 7- or a 6 even.

Comments: Mark and Nate have it right! When I got to the crux I knew if I slipped (even if my piece held) I would break a leg at best. As I turned the crux my piece fell out. :O Gulp! I consider it a pretty serious route for the 5.8-5.9 leader, unless when you're at the crux you have the perfect gear with you, and you place it perfectly. Great pro above that, though. And, a hell of a fun route.

Comments: Done this one a million times, and watched a million people on it. Crux for people is definitely getting to the horizontals and then standing on them. Height dependent difficulty there for sure. Can't see any PG or R rating, the only chance you have of getting hurt on lead is if you accidently slip on the first five feet, but you wouldn't get hurt bad and that is pretty normal for all routes. A spotter is nice for that. Otherwise just a real fun classic route to me. I have a video of John Long c... more >>
