(Posted July 2006, in case I forget to update it later)

I'm looking for a weekend/after work partner in the Boulder area. I'll tell you about myself, and you can decide if it's a good fit.

I want to return to active regular climbing after a long time off. I'm 47 and a Dad, but the kids are now older (16,13) so I can get time off that I couldn't over the past decade or so. I've gotten the odd climb in over the years, but now I want to step up the frequency.

In my young 20's I was leading 5.9-5.10 and some big alpine routes in Canada. Yellow Spur and Anthill Direct on a trip through here back then. I've made some 5.9 moves lately, but arm strength and endurance are biggest holes right now. Starting to work on that in the gym. I'm probably your 5.7/5.8 guy right now. Need to sharpen up my head for leading.

I'm a big guy: 6'4", 205. I've got a full rack and 60m rope. Safety is key to me: knowledge, skill and good decision making. I've done sketchy, I'm over that.

I'd love to do:
  • Eldo and Lumpy classics
  • Alpine routes: Dreamweaver, Grepon, Hallets. Did Kieners last year.
  • Boulder Canyon classics and even some sport routes.
  • Flatiron classics (per Roach's book) as well as long easy climbs just for the joy of getting out (1st Flatiron E face, for example)

I think I'm pretty convivial and easy going, and enjoying the beer and endorphin buzz after cragging works for me. I'm available some evenings after work, and many weekends. One other thing - I'm a big fan of going really early on weekends, to avoid crowds, heat and getting back in time to do something else.

Drop me a line if you want to get together.
