Comments: David,

Chill out tough guy. You description did not make sense as I read it yesterday. I thought the same thing as Alexander.

The Mother and Child are a small group of remote towers located within Glen Canyon Nation Recreation Area (GCNRA), near the western boundary of Canyonlands National Park. They are best included with climbs of The Maze area in Canyonlands NP due to their proximity to Land of the Standing Rocks. Note: Climbing regulations for GCNRA stipulate that all gear and equipme... more >>

Comments: Pitch 2 (I think) has a Lost Arrow crack that goes straight up from the belay. There is a HUGE block that looks/sounds pretty loose and is just kinda perched there. This thing is RIGHT above the belay and could kill everyone involved. I placed a bolt to avoid touching it. It might be solid but I really didn't want to kill Rick. Years ago I trusted a block like that on Milk Crates from Hell and almost killed myself...guess I'm still a bit gun shy. :-)

If you do the route and it's not as b... more >>

Comments: Guys,

I really have no idea about all that Grade V/IV/VVV/XXX stuff.

I'll take a look and adjust that rating for the climbs that I have done...if I can figure it out.

What I can say is this route is pretty awesome and we consider it a total score fer sure.

All the best.

Comments: All,

Please feel free to pull angles and drill deeper holes...or pull them and re-drill to 1/2 inch and place bolts.

Be safe.

Comments: A buddy and I did what we think to be the second ascent of this years ago (10?).

Anyhoo, we did score 2 mint A5 beaks that were used for the anchor (Middendorf/Shipley). As I recall I was able to twist the cables and they just fell apart in my hand.

Might not be the second(not that it matters) but I would assume if somebody else was up there they would have scored those beaks.

Choss pile but cool summit and view.

Comments: All,

I have a classic story about this. Soloed this years ago thinking it was a new route as James had stated he had drilled a bolt for a solo anchor and I couldn't find one to save my life. Weird huh?

Anyhoo it way over 100 degrees outside...I get to the top totally delirious look everywhere for an anchor and can't find one. As I recall I had to do all sorts of shenanigans to find gear (no drill). So I clean my gear and go to rap off of the shorter side (not facing the road). I must have rapp... more >>

Comments: We climbed the last pitch again yesterday.

I didn't lead it again (Paul did) and there is no way it's 5.9.

Cool funky move or two though...I would tell you the trick but where is the fun in that.

5.10 fer sure.

:-)
