Comments: Unfortunately, we dropped our pack with shoes, jackets and a few other goodies from this route on Saturday June 28. We went back first thing Sunday to retrieve it and it was not there. There was a party below us who approached from the La Luz. I can only assume they took our stuff. I would appreciate getting it back.

Comments: Tie your own 9/16" form REI with oval biners. Our rack included all our cams, which was about 3 or so, a good set of nuts, and some hexes.

Comments: Funny to here Kevin say I didn't think the 9-5 was that hard. I must have been pretty inflated after that one. I sure remember it being hard, with some really difficult downward traversing nailing and some intricate heads out a big roof. I blew a #0 circle head with a little bounce and got suuuuper lucky when a #1 head caught my static fall and saved my ass from taking a ride over the sharp looking edge below. Big potential for harmful falls on that one. A3 for sure. But yeah, right,... more >>

Comments: Great photo. There is however a trail and cairns in the portion you marked bushwack. The trail is very sparse and fades in and out but it is there and there are cairns as well.

Comments: Climbed a much better variation to this last Sunday. After the first pitch traverse the ledge all the way over to the anchor for the 5.5's first pitch and go pretty much straight up from there. trend slightly right on sparse but adequate thin gear then trend left to some awesome 5.9 finger cracks. This part of the wall is vertical and clean and the finger cracks are really good. Step left into the roofs on the Schein variation but first pull some jugs right of the Schein variation and enter the ... more >>

Comments: The first time I went to climb this I had just started up the first pitch when this dude whipped off of QoB on the slippery traverse right before the steep crux moves. He had not placed anything and broke his ankle on the slab below. I Could hear his ankle break. We rapped and helped him hobble back to the car. It felt like a long way to me but he was laughing and joking the whole way. We came back and sent a few weeks later.

Comments: This route is only 2 1/2 pitches at best. The first pitch is very short and could be linked with the second with a 70m but I think it wise to belay anyway. Pitch '4' is then pitch 3. I easily made the summit with a 60m cord from the third belay.

I'm no hard man but I did not feel this route to be over 5.7 at any point, especially by Sandia standards. I love the pic in the Mike hill book that makes the OW look like a splitter. I thought it quite funny when I saw the crack in person.

Comments: There is a nice vine growing there in that greenery. I am pretty sure it is hops. At least it looks and smells that way.

Comments: This thing is way harder than Lucky Boy 11c, Quick Draw Mcgraw 11b/c and I think harder than Gunslinger 11d. its certainly more sustained than any of the above. So 11c? 11d? 12a? aah who cares, its a great climb!

Comments: I love this route. I climbed it first when I knew almost nothing about climbing. It was a pure, unfettered experience that kicked off and inspired my life of climbing. I wonder how many have been intrigued and inspired by this little piece of excellent granite.

Comments: Cowboy's Delight is given A3 in Mick's book and is part of Purple Haze but it is more like A2. Davito graded it A3 because he put it up before he owned any cams.

Comments: I sent Purple Haze w/ Kevin Jaramillo in 2002 I think it was. It took us two nights and three days on the wall plus one day hauling gear and fixing two pitches. The nine to five pitch took me about 5 1/2 hours to lead and haul plus I added a bolt at the anchor. Supposedly it took Ely Lynn from 9 to 5 but as Lee pointed out that was the FA and he drilled 2 or three rivets as I recall. The A4+ pitch is all that and took Kevin around 8 hrs. There is a lot of other involved free and aid climbing on ... more >>
