Comments: It'll most likely be gone by spring. All it takes is someone that knows how to clean- or if it's buried, someone that knows how to use a couple extended nut tools. I dug a green Camalot out of this thing like that a while ago.

Felt like .11c to me. Though, I'm no Chris Whisenhunt- and Mike gives it .11d.

Comments: I second Chris's suggestion. A few years ago, being a NRG neophyte, I ponied up and bought the first edition of Mike Williams's guidebook. I was easily able to locate what I was looking for, and it got me hooked to come back season after season. If you are looking for a particular difficulty, type, or style of climbing (e.g. gear protected vs bolt protected, crack vs face, etc.) then shoot Chris or myself an email. If you're climbing higher end stuff, Chris would be a better choice. For out... more >>

Comments: Awesome Chris. Thanks for the NRAC mention. I also put a link on the NRG home page. If you climb with any regularity at the New, or if you just like giving a little back because you're grateful for fixed hardware and the hard work of development and maintenance, please consider donating.

Comments: Except for really classic routes like King of Swing @ Kingfish and The Decameron @ Tattoo, I'd have to agree. One of the reasons is because it gets mobbed because of the quantity of moderates (at places like Tattoo and Beer Wall, etc). Generally speaking though, if you want to NOT have to pluck the gems out of a bunch of average or worse routes, don't go to Bubba City.

Comments: I'm sure you're all good guys and good climbers. It's easy to misconstrue typed text and meaning/motivation behind it. Can't really find fault with anyone that wants accurate route info. Josh, thanks for posting it up in the first place. I'd be happy to knock a few back on Tom's deck with any of you any day.

Comments: Kevin,

Andy didn't say "summiteers" he said "submitter". The submitter is Josh Janes, not you and the others in the first ascent party. Please read his comment again. I don't know Andy personally, but he has always seemed to be a reasonable guy, and has great reverence and respect for the areas he climbs in and the FAists that put up bold routes like this one.

Comments: There's a perfect .4 under the jug on the second ledge. This protects the stretch of crimps just before the huge horizontals before you turn the corner.

Comments: While I agree with you Ed, this isn't the only place that this has occurred. I don't know how long the bolts have been there, or if the FA put them there. Other routes that are bolted cracks and can probably be protected with gear are Disturbance at Beauty, Beetle Byway at Meadow, and the list goes on. There are also routes that go the other way. Gear-protected but thin, requiring tiny gear and definitely R rated- the addition of bolts would be justified (with regard to safety), yet they rem... more >>

Comments: ***NOTICE***

This is the response that I received to the email that I sent to the State Park yesterday:

"Hi Jake –

I am the mountain region biologist for NC state parks (and a long time Stone climber), and your email got forwarded to me. First off – many thanks for reaching out to the park on this. I know that flake very well, and I really appreciate the heads up. I’ve told the guys at the park to post notices that the Arch is closed for the time being due to unsafe conditions... more >>

Comments: I'll contact the State Park and see what they say. I would imagine they need to suspend access for a few hours and would want to oversee the trundling- in whatever way they deem necessary. If this is the block that I'm thinking of, that thing is gigantic and could very well change the character of a couple of routes below it when it comes off; to what degree- who knows.

Edit: Just sent an email to the .gov site of the state park. Will update if/when I hear anything. Please be car... more >>

Comments: It stays dry when there's a straight downpour- like in the late spring and summer. With misty, wind-driven rain, and with the added water of melting snow runoff, almost everything was wet- even routes like this one that are notoriously dry when everything else is wet. It is a sweet route though.
